Skoda fabia 1.2 cam sensor change

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've recently changed the cam sensor after the car started to exhibit an intermittent drop in rpm on idle & subsequently raised a can sensor fault code. Since changing the sensor the code hasn't re appeared, however it now requires a few more cranks to start the engine. After reading a few articles I'm looking for clarification regarding the need to 'recalibrate' the ECU. Does anyone know if this is required, I have seen a suggestion it might be required, but nothing definitive :-(

Dont think it needs any coding or recalibrating as I think it learns by itself. It may be that it takes a bit of time to settle in. MIght also be worth doing a compression test to see if all cylinders are pretty equal or perhaps coil pack failing.

Meant to add check vaccum pipes as well.

Hi, & thanks for the feedback.

Interestingly, I kept the old sensor & re inserted & the starting issue has disappeared. To confirm I tried the new sensor again & the starting issues returned. I've another sensor on order (different brand) to try. I'll let you know the outcome !

As a matter of interest what brand was the new one that caused the starting problems? Last thing you need is to replace a sensor with a new one that doesn't work.
