Info system no satellite view

Featured Replies

I've had my 25 plate Fabia for just under 1000 miles and up until a couple of weeks ago the NAV screen on the information system showed the satellite view, as per Google Maps. Then it just stopped showing the satellite view and all I get now on the NAV screen is the road map view. I can still input destinations and the system still produces a route and tracks the car so it's acquiring satellites, but it just won't give the satellite view on the info screen. I've gone through the manual and there's no mention of it and I can't find anything in NAV settings which switches off satellite view. So I'd be most grateful for any advice on what's happened to default the system to road map view instead of satellite view. Thanks.

Just sorted it after a long play with the system. Got my satellite view back.

Could you explain what you did, please?

It might also be helpful to know the exact Fabia Mk 4 model you own and its infotainment system type (Swing, Bolero or Amundsen).

Mine's the SE L TSI 5 door hatchback which has the (unnamed) 9" information display as described in the user manual. What I didn't realize is that the car's built-in navigation system works only from digital road maps held in the info system, the system does not have satellite information built-in. The satellite view on the info system screen comes from Bluetooth connection with a mobile phone in my case running Android Auto and the reason that I lost my satellite view was simply because my phone's Bluetooth connection with the car had dropped out. I restored the Bluetooth connection between my phone and the car and the info system satellite view came back via the phone. I had to figure this out for myself because when I took the car to my local Skoda dealership, (from which I bought the car), and asked them to restore the info system satellite view they sat fiddling with it for 20 minutes looking for an info system settings function which switched satellite view on and off! They eventually gave up saying they didn't know why it had stopped showing satellite view. By the way, I learned along the way that the built-in digital road maps can be updated either by downloading them from the Skoda Update Portal, copying them to an SD card, inserting the SD card into the car's USB slot and then performing a system update, or the updated maps can be purchased from Skoda already loaded onto an SD card. However, my car is so new that no updated maps are available for it yet.

Thanks for replying.

The specification of a 2025 Fabia SE L Edition model can be found here

https://www.skoda.co.uk/new-cars/fabia/hatch-se-l-edition

and it will be seen that the 9.2" infotainment display is a touchscreen "Amundsen" unit (as fitted to my own 2024 SE L).

What I found confusing about your original enquiry was that (apparently) on some earlier Skodas there was a GOOGLE Earth capability that was selectable through the infotainment unit's settings. But that's definitely not present on Fabia Mk 4 cars.

I was well aware that 'GOOGLE-type' mapping could be produced using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, but (as I would have thought your Skoda dealership should have known) that capability is not provided through the car's own navigation settings and requires a linked smartphone.

Map updating is OTA (Over The Air) but my experience with my car's mapping is that - although OTA mapping updating has clearly taken place - that does not mean the information (particularly speed limits) will be correct.
