Rapid Spaceback 1.5?

Featured Replies

I appear to have a pre-facelift Spaceback, but with some of the features of the facelift (wing mirrors with indicators, the 17" Savio wheels, Amundsen radio, etc.) but missing things like the LED DRLs and the dials have the rev units down the bottom as opposed to the middle at the top of dial. My stereo is also missing the grid view, with only the carousel available (doesn't matter as I use CarPlay anyway BUT I'd like the option if possible!). Firmware on the radio is up to date, apparently, on train MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0369T

Are the headlights straight swap with no coding, and would it be the same with the dials (as the milage is digital on the display)?

It's an SE Sport on a 2016 (66) plate but registered January 2017, so it's a 1.2 TSI (nice cheap tax)

Crossover car - This often happens as a car gets close to facelift time. Rather than order smaller quantities of older components (at higher cost) to finish the pre-facelift run, they start using some of the new pieces to plug the supply chain gaps.

Makes sense, assumed it was the case. Am I able to get facelift parts working with minimal/no fuss?

Depends on the part. Things like infotainment probably not.

The headlights? Would quite like the LED DRLs

Didn't know the indicators on the wing mirrors were a facelift thing, mine manufactured in March 2016 also has them, and may I ask you how you are using Carplay and what you mean by the rev units being at the top? Did some research but couldn't find much.

I’m using CarPlay via SmartLink but I’m using a wireless dongle so I can keep my phone in my pocket. I’m using an Ottocast Mini

The revs on 2017 onwards is listed at the top of the dial, as opposed to the bottom-left but the zero. Same with KMH. Looks cleaner on the later dials IMO

If you look at some earlier Rapids, you see the mirrors are plain with the indicator in the front wing

Yeah - original pre-facelift Rapids (like the one I had - see below) had the little square indicators on the front wing and nothing on the mirror. The indicator wing mirrors were among the first facelift features to be phased in, and I've seen a few crossover cars with both the wing and mirror indicators (and they were not owner mods). Until they used up the pre-facelift metal pressings, there would have been some overlap. However, it is possible on the overlap cars that the wing indicator was just replaced with a reflector to fill the hole and pass the MOT rather than actually having both active units.

Depends on which infotainment you have and you wan't to put in for example if you have MIB you shouldn't need to do much re-wiring stuff except if you do swing to bolero/amundens conversion or vice versa because of different unit locations.

I've got the stock Amundens unit that came with the car. Dials I'm not too fussed about, was more an aesthetics-thing, the LED DRLs would be nice to have though. Not cheap new, could get lucky with regards to a scrappy having a pair.

Weird the radio doesn't have the grid view, AFAIK it's no different to the 'full' facelift model but clearly there is some difference

If you get the faclift headlight on prefacelift car I would be happy if you post it. I would like to do the same mod in future after other plans.

For infotainment if you want the grid menu on amundsen you need to have the unit with leter c at the end. Those units have software with grid menu. I fited in my car amundsend unit (I had swing before) and would love grid menu which looks better but the one that i have got for good deal. I am doing a thread in project page and in a few days I would also add amundsen fiting proces in it if you would be interested.

Does this show it’s not the right unit? And I assume you mean the one in the glove box, as the screen is just that right?

Device part number: 5Q0035874B is the unit in the glove box(I have the same unit now), screens part number is not shown here. If insted of B you had C you could have grid menu.

Here is a link where it explains those part numbers of units but long story short you have almost everything as C just not grid menu. However, there is a posibility to load the software of the C unit to your unit so you could have grid menu. But there is a cacht, it involves opening the unit and do some stuf. Not shure how but I have seen some one do it. I want to learn more about that(probably exploring more in the summer after exams) and if I found something I can contact you. I would probably write it in my project thread. The one thing that I need to do is getting rapid picture on the unit because I don't have it. As far as i know my unit came from superb and have some coded things that could't be in rapid. I still have some problems with it but slowly everything will be perfect :)

I include link to my thred if you would be interested

Just checked my wife’s 2018 Karoq and her unit ends in C and has grid, so that makes sense (also has a firmware update available so will do that at some point). I’ll check out your thread too, thanks 👍🏻

No problem, tag me when you install those facelift DRLs :)
