Dettol for cleaning the aircondition, why not?

Featured Replies

I have read about this in the past, saw some videos but i let it go due some other matters that i had to take care. In the past i have used some other methods as foam inside the airways and a spray inside the cabin

with a/c on and the recycle air button in On position. Few years ago i went to a repair-shop to open the a/c from the front (engine bay) and give a thoroughly cleaning of the evaporator.

Few weeks ago i remember the Dettol it and i had the thought to give it a try.

I have found in my cabinet a spare (non used) extra-long plastic nozzle

which was for an a/c cleaning foam spray and surprisingly it fitted perfect in the Dettol can

so i use it as we usually do with the other a/c sprays.

If your evaporator starts leaking, you'll know the reason.

Aluminium isn't the most corrosion resistant material out there, so I'd be careful using anything but A/C cleaners.

Even a small amount od Dettol insise the air vent (interior) can hurt something else e.g. plastics?

Except the notice from the label about metal corrosion i also found this notification from another user:

''Do not use on non-stainless steel, aluminum, silver, or chipped enamel''.

Also beware you don't damage the evap interior temperature sensor with the spray (been there done that on a Fabia)

With the a/c spray you damage it?

Yes I did the same as you on a Fabia, spraying through the access for the pollen filter and the following day the A/C stopped because the sensor had failed

Oh no, so since a ''dedicated'' a/c spary can do some damage what are our options?

Not sure - I may just have been unlucky and might have sprayed directly onto the sensor...

So it's ''safer'' the inside the cabin-continious opened spray-air recycle ON and wait till all the content of the spray circulated method?
