Coil Packs AGAIN!!!!

Featured Replies

Advice required please.

To date, I have had no reason to suspect a problem with coil packs fitted on my motor. However, having read a few posts, I decided to have an investigate this weekend. I've suspected I had dodgey one fitted as my car was put together around in late 2001.

It has 31K on the clock and I've had no problems whatsoever. I've found the engine is fitted with the "H" type coil packs which we all know to be defective. Am I going to get these changed under warranty after having the engine modified - no I don't think so.

Therefore, do I continue to drive and pretend not to know about the coil packs fitted, believing that if they were going to fail, they would have by now? Or do I get some spares from my friendly Skoda garage and stick them in the boot for a rainy day?

Suggestions please..........

Get some spares and stick em in the boot.

IIRC quite a few members have had coil packs replaced under warranty even with modified cars. Can someone confirm this?

Yes - me. They didn't ask about mods; I didn't tell them. No problem.

Mods should not be a problem - don't wait for the problem to appear, just refer to the bulletin issued to Skoda dealers by Skoda UK that Niki referred to - at this link

I tried this approach, and got told to come back when it's broken.

Nothing like a bit of preventative maintenance, eh? Good old Skoda dealers.

I'm going to get my local, unfranchised garage, who I trust, to fit a new one at my own expense.

:soapbox:

Chris - I would have gone ballistic if my dealer had tried that approach when I had the exact details re:what they had been told - its pretty clear what they have to do!

I booked my car in (post Jabba-chip) for some warranty work, and the dealer replaced all the coilpacks for me. Apparently dealers are under instructions to check all cars that come their way for dodgy coilpacks, and to replace all of the old-type ones.
