Funny engine sound MY19 Kodiaq RS 2.0 TDI

Featured Replies

Hi there, new here, my name is Nick, I live in NZ and we own a Moonwhite 2019 Skoda Kodiaq RS 2.0TDI. We bought it 2 years ago second hand and love it. It's at 79K now.

A year ago we had it serviced at the Skoda dealer for it's 60K Major service under warranty. No issues but we got the car back with a mysterious rattle from the engine. It appears at lower gears and speed and dissolves in car sound when going above 50Km/h. I called the dealer straight away and brought it back. I did a drive with the mechanic and he noticed it too and mentioned it's a droning sound. 3 days later, they couldn't find a thing but it was gone. According to them. I took off and noticed it wasn't but gave them the benefit of the doubt and drove it for a day. I called them the next day and dropped it off again. 3 days of testing and god knows what, they rang me: a loose hose was found and was the culprit. I picked up the car and you can guess it, still there. Fed up and lost faith I decided to keep driving hoping it would go away. It didn't.

A year later, now out of warranty, I brought the car in for a normal service and mentioned it was still making the sound. They would honour the warranty and inspect it. They did service but wanted to keep the car for a few days, run some tests and share data with Skoda NZ & Germany. 3 days later I get a call, Germany thinks it's an injector seal and they'll fix it. They fix it, test it again and the sound it gone, according to them. I pick up the car and it's still there. WTF

Does anybody have any similar issues with their Kodiaq RS 2.0TDI? I'll upload a video with the sound. > https://youtube.com/shorts/x6UT_BffbKs?feature=share

Hard to hear...

All I can hear is that it sounds a bit like a V8... Strange...
