Fabia 4 mc Front wipers

Featured Replies

We have been increasingly unhappy with our UK 2024 Fabia mc.

However, I’ve managed to make a really useful upgrade for around £20.  Both of us have been annoyed by the useless windscreen wipers on the front.  They drag noisily across the windscreen and leave uneven streaks.

There was a useful thread on the forum covering the rear wiper. It went on to mention problems with the front ones.  Like much of the Fabia kit the wipers seem poor quality and apparently the dealerships will typically fit new wiper blades which have the same issues but cost mega money. After some doubts I ordered a pair of Bosch A864s wiper blades.  The were bought on Amazon and are a straight swap.  Avoid anything where the picture shows an adapter to fit the blades to the arms.  These are made to fit the car exactly.

They are easy to fit but I suggest using a towel to protect the glass.  I couldn’t do the job without pulling the arms well away from the glass and slightly levering the blades while pushing down the little square button that locks the blades in position. The Bosch wipers are working silently and without leaving smears. The result has been magical.

This is the forum thread you refer to

Placing the windscreen wipers in the 'service position' (as described in the forum thread below) should make replacing the driver-side wiper blade easier.

As you've advised, protecting the windscreen with a a cloth is a wise move to prevent the 'bare' outer end of the wiper-arm accidentally smacking down against the glass.

I don't have much difficulty removing my 2024 Fabia's original Skoda wiper blades and replacing them with the Bosch equivalents. Conversely (as I mentioned in the first thread above) removing/replacing my 2009 Roomster's Bosch Aerotwin blades - that use the same design of 'press button' attachment fitting - is a real swine.

Agreed with the fact the OE wiper blades are terrible. I thought initially that they had gotten covered in some kind of protection wax for transportation or during the PDI (I got LifeShine on ours).

I tried cleaning them with neat screen wash a few times and it made no difference. Then we had a few frosty days and someone left the wipers switched on and the blades got ripped. I was (not) terribly upset about having to go and get a new set of blades and the local factors only stock Bosch blades so instant upgrade.
