Fabia Spare Wheel

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, this is my first question on here, so hopefully I’ve posted it in the right place.

I’m looking to buy a spare wheel for my new MK4 Fabia 110 comes with 195/55 R16 alloy wheels. I don’t want to pay extortionate money. So I’ll buy a second hand one online. I’ve already got the foam insert from my previous car, Seat Leon, so it’s just the wheel I need.

I want a full size steel wheel and tyre. My question is, are polo/ibiza/fabia wheels interchangeable as it just widens the search/availability? Also, what size should I get, is it 185/65 HR15? I’m assuming most of the small car VAG wheels are the same, I’m just not sure about offsets etc. I want a full sized steel rim + tyre that has similar overall diameter as the alloys. Thanks Guys.

I got mine from The Wheel Shop, through Ebay, but you can go direct.

Great deal and delivery complete with tools.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve been on there before but they offer 2 sizes, a 15” and 16”. I’m not sure which one to get. My alloys are 16” but will have a 55 walled tyre so I’m assuming a 15” steel wheel spare with a 65 walled tyre would be fairly equal in size? I don’t want to get a 16” spare wheel if it’s too big with the steel rim and won’t fit in the boot recess. I hope that makes sense. Cheers.

I'm fairly certain that the stock 15" wheel they supply acts as a spare for both 15" and 16" replacement 'on a temporary basis' as befits this type of wheel.

I seem to recall that in a previous thread on this topic someone came in with a whole load of stats on the subject.

The 15" wheel that I got fits nice and snug in the boot recess.

Cool, is that a 15” full sized wheel? I don’t want a frisbee space saver 😂

I got this one:

Thanks. I think there’s enough space in the wheel well for a full sized one. Personally I’d prefer the full sized one as I’ll be using my car for work and I’ll need to go longer distances than a space saver will allow and the get a puncture to the alloy fixed whilst I’m working. Cheers.

Got to admit the service from this outfit was first class.

Swift dispatch with courier delivery.

My understanding is that you will need to buy an identical alloy wheel and tyre size if you don't want to be subject to speed and distance restrictions in the event of a puncture.

Just get a Spare Steel with a 195/55 R 16 tyre then since you have that on the car and that fits in the spare tyre well.

Or get an allow with that tyre.

Even buy a tyre that matches those on the car. Run at the same pressure, but remember if brand new / green to run it in a bit, it still has release agent on it maybe.

Or buy a used one. As long as tyre is OK.

185/60 R 15 was the size of spare from Skoda in Mk2 Fabia.

You could get a 205/40 R 17 in or a 215/ 40 R 17.

Hi Guys, thanks for all the messages. I went for the wheel shop option of 185/60/R15. They didn’t have a 65 option but it’s near enough and will hopefully fit in the wheel well when it arrives. I’ve got all of the kit/insert from my Seat Leon, so no need to buy another. It’ll do. The jack and wheel brace should be fine, I’m just hoping the tow ring is the same size. But it should be … famous last words.

This April 2024 forum thread discussed spare-wheels for Fabi Mk 4 models

I obtained the Skoda optional spare-wheel kit for my Fabia Mk 4 and provided the following 'technical' data in the above forum thread.

I asked the dealership to obtain the optional spare wheel 'kit' for my Fabia SE L (that has 16"-diameter alloy wheels) and the 1st type (for £200) was provided. My car has Goodyear 195/55 R16 91V tyres, whereas the 15"-diameter steel spare wheel carries a Nexen 185/65 R15 88H tyre. Obviously neither that steel wheel nor its Nexen tyre match the alloy wheels and Goodyear tyres fitted to the car's other four wheels, but the rolling circumference of 195/55 Ri6 and 185/65 R15 tyres is near as dammit the same. So - if I have to bring the spare wheel into play - the car's handling should not be much affected and the distance and speed limitations that bedevil space-saver tyres won't apply.

As the rolling circumference of the 17"-diameter and 18"-diameter wheels fitted to some Fabias (as standard or optionally) is greater than that of the 15" and 16" wheels, It's possible that a wheel fitted with a 215/45 R17 or 215/40 R18 tyre would not fit in the spare-wheel well, which might explain why there are two spare wheel options.

Cheers, I couldn’t find a 65 option on the site I went with, so got the 60 so, I know it’s a tiny bit smaller but it’ll fine for temporary use whilst I get a puncture repaired and it’s wider than a space saver so, it’ll do. I’ll stick a bit of extra air in it for good measure 😂 I was also conscious of it fitting I the wheel well. So if a 65 fits in the well, like you’ve said, then the 60 certainly will. I was looking on eBay for a cheaper 2nd hand one but went with a new one from the Wheel Shop, just so I knew the tyre was new as the 2nd hand ones tend to be taken from 2012-2017 cars or older so the rubber will have degraded somewhat. Anyway, fingers crossed I don’t ever need to use a spare wheel in the first place 🤞 Thanks again.

Come to this late but those two pictures of the green and red boots have the wrong jack in the foam insert, the Mk2 and Mk3 jacks will damage the sill of the Mk4 if used, you need a the scissor jack for the Mk4.

@Hudson1 The Pictures of Mk2 Fabia vRS show the jack as was supplied with new cars 2010-2014.

So yes not the jack for the Mk 4. But the pictures were there showing wheel sizes in a spare tyre well.

The optional steel spare-wheel and foam-plastic tool-storage insert for a Skoda Fabia Mk 4 is as shown in the image below and includes a scissor jack.

Screen Shot 2025-10-30 at 08.20.15.png

Although the type of jack shown in the (green) 1st photo of the two in the earlier posting has the potential to damage the reinforced metal jacking-seam of a Fabia Mk 4, in practice it won't be usable as a Mk 4's seam is a much further towards the centre of the vehicle than on earlier models.

Whatever the type of jack, if it is positioned on the car's sill and not on the reinforced jacking-seam, the sill will be damaged when the car is lifted.
