Thinking about buying an ex demonstrator, diesel, 60,000 miles, DSG and 4x4, what should I be looking out for, i.e, cambelt

The car does actually have the digi dash as well, thinking seriously about getting it, drives really well.

There should be a record of it having had the Haldex serviced twice by now. 3 years / 30,000 miles. Hopefully more than just oil changes were done. As to the DSG if a DQ381 with the scheduled service at 80,000 miles. Maybe done and maybe not. Or is it a DQ500 DSG, and a 40,000 mile service schedule. AC servicing, brake fluid changes. Any warranty work history?

Emailed my local Skoda service centre with the VIN and asked if they could pull up the digital records for me so we can tell if the belt has been done, or inspected etc.

Update time, I think I have located a good one, albeit has done 95,000 miles, 1 owner, had a private plate fitted and then removed and reverted to its original plates, but as the service history is now on line only, I have requested the details (above) from my local service Skoda centre. It has all the niceties that I was looking for heated seats in the front at least, leather seats, blind spot monitoring, ACC, Land departure, front and rear parking sensers, electric front seats, full LED matrix headlights with the AFS and and automatic blanking of beam to prevent blinding other drivers etc etc and the real added bonus is that it also has the virtual cockpit and also the almost none existent these days, space saver wheel and jack instead of the aerosol kit you get these days, none of which was mentioned in the advert, so that's pretty good, a bonus and a good price too. Did a car vertical report on the car, no issues highlighted there and suggests that the average price for the car of that age is around £21,000.

The only issue I could detect during the test drive was the air con needs recharging or something, which is being addressed and the big issue was could another 1.9m tall person comfortable sit behind me when I have drivers seat back as far as it can go, and that, in the 5 seater version is a resounding success with a couple of inches to spare.

Just need to get to the bottom of the cambelt and water pump position now, but at the moment it would seem as if all the stars are all lining up in a row for me 👍

Good stuff and fingers crossed for you Graham.

I'm guessing it's the petrol blue Edition with cream interior on auto trader in which case it looks very tidy.

@Bap33f you go with the MK1 SEL trim level you do indeed get LED headlights with the AFS functionality, anything lower and you only get the standard Halogen headlights. I doubt that

My 5 seat MK1 SE L has LED headlights, but they're not AFS.

Hi Graham,

Good news! And.. Sorry for my ignorance, but what does this mean? (maybe just something I can't translate properly):

It means the owner had a personlised number plate fitted and later on when they purchased another new car, transfered that plate to the new and the old car transferred back to its original number plate. It happens a lot, my neighbours do that all the time. I'm not that vain and can happy live with what ever plate the car has.

OK. I didn't know, this possible in UK. Nice. 🙂

What about the 'Land departure'?

That is a typo, it should read "lane", helps to keep the car in between the white lines.

OK, I understand better, now. 😉

Are you sure that you have the lighting switch in the "AUTO" position? This allows them switch on the lights automatically when the daylight begins to fade and saves driving without have the proper lights on. If you turn then on and off manually then the headlights will operate just other dum lights with a fixed beam.

Check out the SE L spec over and above the SE spec on page 22 and you will see that you should have the AFS function.

Skoda-Kodiaq-2017-UK-.pdf

My 2018 has LED headlights (dip and main beam), auto main beams, no matrix. But it's a here model... didn't want matrix and i've added a decent sized LED bar to get main beams worthy of the name. 4x4 is lovely, wouldn't want to go without here.
Cambelt is 6 years in some cases, if it's the 110kW / 150hp, it needs done if it wasn't already IMO. And then I would do Haldex and DSG for peace of mind.
The auto handbrake system is way lumpier and dissonant in my Kodiaq than it was in the Superb. And yes, the Superb really did feel like more of a magic carpet. The heated wheel is more effective (and faster) in the Kodiaq; the heated seats take a lot longer with leather than fabric. Memory seats are cool, offspring doesn't like the car though as it's simply "too big". Kodiaq a little quieter at speed, but tyres make a big difference. 7-10% higher fuel consumption, but that's also manual vs dsg. (Superb was manual, Kodiaq is DSG).

Auto lights are a two-edged sword: I think the HBA reacts reasonably but is too slow to turn on with light still outside. And accidentally turns the lights on too often when going downhill with traffic coming towards me, so the traffic thinks I've flashed at them for something, whereas the system is just being silly. The headlights come on really early, though.... I will have to go looking for some settings in the coding to tweak.

Have a look at the car settings on the infotainment screen, I know that on the Superb with the Xeon lights there is one setting there that controlled when the lights came on automatically. It had 3 settings, early, normal and late I think, so find that menu and play around with it to find which suits you best.

Some models came with Halogen, the next model up came with LEDs and came the full LEDs with AFS and or Matrix.

The matrix lights only appeared on the Facelift (2021-).

Also, if you have the LED headlights on a SE L model, MK1, then I think you should have the AFS as well, but for it to function, you need the light switch to be on AUTO position and the drive mode not to be in the ECO setting. This caught me out when I first got my Mk3 Superb.

This setting only deals with turning on the Headlights. It's different from the High Beam Assist, which automatically switches from low beam to high beam and other way round. I think @brettikivi is more looking for the latter point, I guess.

Correct, it's the only one I can comment on as I have never had a car with high beam assist, so I know zero in that area.

I'm keen to go and get mine now its all insured and taxed, its a bit of a bummer though, going from £35 a year to £195 and then blow me if I miss out on half a months tax, still I think it could be worth it as the Superb, as comfortable as it is, its killing me ever time I get in or out of it.

Interesting... Going from my ex Superb Mk3 to a Kodiaq Mk1 helped me saving 45% on car insurance.🤷‍♂️

I have a petrol 1.5 Tsi Superb 2019 SEL Executive car and apart from the Bi headlights it's a brilliant car.Its s shame that the Bi Xenon head light are not brilliant !

They have very little range , no output and wonderful if you are a bird watcher looking at the owls in the trees.

These headlights are the worst I have ever experienced. However , I don't use the car in the winter months so not much of an issue for me.

Interesting, mine has had a similar effect, saving me around 25 to 30%, not worked it out properly yet, will do that tomorrow when I get back home. Not 100% sure if the car is doing the saving or insurance has come down in general.

It sounds likely that they need to be correctly adjusted, they are great lights when properly setup.

I 'm looking forward to seeing your new Kodiaq in the picture thread soon! 😉

Hi Graham , thanks for your reply.

The supplying Skoda dealer MOT the car and the to date has passed with no issues.

Are you saying that although the lights may be correctly set up they can be gone tuned.
