Squealing brakes

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have a Skoda Octavia 1.5 mhev 2024, I've driven 20k kilometers and I noticed that my rear brakes squeal when I lightly press the brake but not always but when they warm up after 10 minutes of driving. It doesn't worry me that much, the authorized service said that it's normal, however I noticed that sometimes that similar sound comes when I start moving (I don't hold the brake, but slowly while moving) and it really annoys me. Is there a solution and do most people have squeaky brakes? Best regards

So it does it at low speed, when you’re not on the brake at all?

If it does it while braking, that’s another story. A squeal when not braking is likely a slightly warped disc. Could be an issue with dust shield but that’s more of a grinding sound (stone stuck in them, etc).

Could be vibration (greased pads?), or something rubbing as a result of not sitting right (shims, etc).

New rear brakes will sort it. It’s quite hard to fix warped rear discs by heavy braking as 85% of the heat (something like that) is taken up by the fronts.

It squeals when I brake lightly, while sometimes I can hear a similar sound while driving slowly without pressing the brake. The sound is more common when I brake. The service center told me that the pads are like new. I'm more concerned about the sound that comes when I drive without pressing the brake, although it doesn't happen all the time (I haven't found out what it depends on yet).

Same 1.5 mhev 24 plate model high pitch noise which i thought i must need new pads only done 7k miles took wheels off pads no way near done chunky as new took everything off re greased etc back on still same i hear it when driving around slowly sub 40mph may be there at higher but covered by road noise it doesn't sound more intense when I brake like if new pads were needed may have to check if it's actually at the rear or try work out if disk is warped as it is extremely annoying and embarrassing

Thanks
