TalkTalk Broadband / Tiscali e-mail

Featured Replies

Friend of mine recently moved to talk talk broadband from tiscali dial up and since then he download his e-mails form tiscali to outlook but can't send any - error is something to do with server settings.

I had the same problem when I moved from freeserve to BT couple of years ago and some tinkering solved it but i can't for the life of me remember what i did.

anyone know to solve it???

cheers

Has he set the outgoing server details?

Probably SMTP...he needs to find out the details for the Tiscali outgoing server.

Will need to do the same for the incoming mail server...probably POP3.

Easy enough there.

Since SMTP (used for sending mails a push protocol) generally doest have any security the ISP will only accept SMTP request comming from it's own network. Therefore if your friend is on talk talk, he will no longer be able to send his/her email to the tiscali SMTP server to forward on the the world at large.

Only way to send mail from tiscali is to be on their network. (or if they can allow passworded SMTP but this is rare)

They should change his e-mail address to the one given to him by talk talk.

They will still be able to recieve the pop3 messages from their tiscali account.

I would look at buying a cheap .co.uk domain to allow your friend to keep their e-mail address consistant if they like.

http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ are fairly cheap.

I'm with TalkTalk and got in a similar situation when I switched.

The settings for his outgoing mail for his Tiscali account in outlook should be set to exactly the same as the outgoing mail for his talktalk account :) this should sort it

Well he will be able to send mail, but it will all be going via the talk talk mail servers and as such comming from the talk talk account not the tiscali one.

Serious point if you want to change ISPs buy a domain name and use that to forward your e-mails to your ISP account, No problems then :)
