Salvage car

Featured Replies

Is it worth spending roughly 1.5k on a salvage car and give it some love so it would be all fixed up and looking new again? its just an option on my ideas for a alternative anyone done it on here before?:)

IMHO and in your situation, no. It's in a salvage yard for a reason so it's gonna cost to get it back on the road. Plus, I'm not sure how much of that money you'd get back come selling time. :D

hmm was an idea they all seemed to look ok and most of them looked to be just damge to the bodywork and windows, i was only thinking about it:O

Depends, teh car is considered beyond economical repair, also you would have to ask what catagory write off it was. I certainly wouldn't be paying £1.5k though for a write off.

A re-shell is the only one I'd consider but expect it to take a long time - they're written off on hours rather than parts cost normally.

A mate of mine has just been rear ended in his Cosworth 4x4 Sapphire, it was mint and has loads of modified parts on it. The insurance comapany paid out about £5000 and he bought the car back for £900. Not bad as it was a rear end shunt so the engine bay and interior were fine. He's planning on transferring the majority of the parts into another Cosworth.

But he knows the history of the car and the details of the crash. I'd be wary in any other situation!

Save your money for beer at uni.

Talk to a1topdog on here. IIRC he bought a written off Octy RS and has rebuilt it.....

I would do it with proper research into damage done, what you can physically do yourself as once you approach garages, you're stepping into the financial limits why the car was written off in the first place. :)

If I ever saw a salvageable Fabia I might have a go myself as I know them fairly well now (depending on what damage was done) - Other marques I would be much more wary.
