Škoda Kodiaq 2.0 tdi - Wrong fuel aditive

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have a Škoda Kodiaq 2.0 TDI with 86,000 km. I ordered a few things from my local car parts dealer through their webshop, and among them was a fuel additive. I picked up the order and poured the additive – a 300 ml Datacol – into the tank.

Only after I finished, I noticed they had given me the wrong one: it was the petrol additive instead of the diesel version.

After that, I went to the gas station and filled up with another 10 liters of diesel until the tank was full, but now I don’t really know what to do next. The shop opens tomorrow, and I will ask them for compensation...

Some people tell me I should now add another additive – the Datacol for diesel this time – to dilute the wrong one.

Others say I should drive until I use up half the tank and then refill it to the top, while some advise me to run the tank as low as possible and then fill it completely with premium diesel.

Honestly, I’m going crazy over this. The mistake is partly mine but also theirs, and I have no idea what the consequences could be or what the best course of action is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The basic issue is that for some unstated reason you have decided to use snake oil in your car, never mind that you compounded the issue by using the "wrong sort of snake oil".

There are 2 possible ways out of this:

  1. Drain the fuel tank and fill with fresh diesel.

  2. Brim the tank with diesel every time it will take 2 or 3 gallons until the tank is at least half full of "good diesel" then drive until it reaches the level of the refill light . Rebrim.

Either way, put this down to experience and never buy snake oil again.
