Warning light on speedo display

Featured Replies

I would be grateful for any advice on the following please.

Due to me being partially-sighted now I haven’t driven the Scout for a number of years so my wife does all the driving. During a long drive a couple of days ago my wife suddenly noticed some sort of warning light on the Speedo display. We had the Tom-Tom on and it pinged warning us that we were slightly over the speed limit. My wife thought that it was the Scout pinging and giving an audible warning notice and then she saw the light on the Speedo. The Scout didn’t actually give any sort of warning ping and it may just be purely a coincidence that she happened to notice the light when the Tom-Tom sounded. Has anybody else had this warning light and what was the solution please? I have attached a photo showing the light displayed. Thank you as always for any advice you might be able to give.

Cheers,

John

There should be a list of warning lights in the handbook that came with the car, that should tell what that light signifies. If it's a diesel engined Scout it may indicate an issue with the DPF; best looked at by a VAG specialist garage.

Is it the Engine Light / Exhaust Emissions light that is being asked about?

The yellow Engine lamp is the Engine management system lamp and comes on for a multiple of reasons mainly regarding emissions

A code reader would identify the problem

Yes it’s the yellow icon on the analogue speedo. Our local garage is shut on a Saturday so will get it checked out Monday morning.

The yellow engine management lamp is a big generator of revenue for dealerships.

Depending upon whether it will reset itself after an activation if the fault goes away.

Investing in an obd reader that can turn it off is a must.

You can end up paying to have the light turned off when that was all that was needed to be done after an erroneous error report.

Some cars will reset the lamp if you cycle the ignition a few times without starting the car.

Obviously if it keeps returning after a while it needs further investigation
