Land Rover Series 2

Featured Replies

Well I've gone on about owning a LandRover, so I'm finally an owner at last!

First built on 1958, registered as a 1963 A plate with the MOD until de-comissioned in 1981 and returned to civi spec.

Ok it's in need of some TLC, chassis is very good, but it needs some new body parts bolted on.

I've joint bought it with SWSBO's father as a pet project to resort it together (both have a passion for Landies) and a chance to bond!

If anyone knows any resources for finding out it's history I'd be greatful.

Looks like a fun project - not sure I could do anything like that with my father-in-law though

Looks good and I was tempted but what with kids, work and no space, it never became a reality :D Well worth joining your local Land Rover club if you haven't already as they're excellent for getting hold of info and parts and there's always a chap who know's a chap who used to work for Land Rover and can get/find out/steal, etc

Did they say what was removed to take it from MOD spec to civi-spec? :D

Yeah certainly wouldn't let him do an oil change on it ;)

A former colleague had a series one, ex-MOD. It had features like the ability to operate front and rear lights independantly etc. I think there was something different with the fuel tanks and the rear diff too - but cant reamember what it was

to be fair the guy "we" bought it from wasn't sure of the total story, so at the moment I'm unsure what the MOD spec was. We got it rather cheap as he just wanted it gone.

As for the father-in-law bit, we seem to get on fairly well only time will tell if what he wants to do and what I have in mind are the same thing. So far we are agreed on finding out what it's colours were in the MOD and reverting it back to them.

Also it was most likely a soft top to start with so it might well go back to that too.

Registered here a while back to help out my father-in-law:
