Octavia Mk2 fl + 2016 Yeti steering wheel (5L0 419 091 Q) – which SCCM/slip ring needed?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone 🙂

I’ve just installed a 2016 facelift Yeti steering wheel into my Octavia Mk2 facelift (2011). After the swap, the horn stopped working and the multifunction buttons don’t respond. In OBDeleven I only get “Function not available (31).”

I’m wondering if the fact that the wheel is from 2016 makes a difference – are the buttons from that year still compatible with the Octavia Mk2 platform (PQ35), or are they already using a newer (MQB) system that simply won’t work?

Here’s all the part info from my setup:

Steering wheel: 5L0 419 091 Q (built 26.04.2016)

Airbag: 3T0 880 201 G (built 2016)

Steering Column Control Module (SCCM): 5K0 953 569 (HW version 009)

Software number: 5K0 953 521 AQ (SW 0136, OBDeleven says 0140 exists)

Slip ring / clockspring: 5K0 953 502 N

My questions are:

1. Should this 2016 Yeti facelift wheel (with buttons + horn) normally work plug & play with these parts?

2. Is my SCCM too “lowline” for multifunction support?

3. If an upgrade is needed, which SCCM and slip ring versions are generally recommended for Octavia Mk2/Yeti retrofits with multifunction wheels?

4. Is there at least a workaround to get the horn working without replacing the SCCM/slip ring, or is the upgrade unavoidable?

I’ve seen people mention highline versions like 5K0 953 569 AH / AJ / BC (SCCM) and matching slip rings like 5K0 953 502 AN / BA, but I’d really like to hear from anyone who has direct experience – especially with a 2016 Yeti wheel in an Octavia Mk2.

Could anyone confirm which part numbers actually work in this setup, or if this wheel/airbag combo is simply not compatible at all?

Thanks a lot in advance!
