Oil volume and specs for 2016 Fabia SE 1.4 TDI – sanity check!

Featured Replies

Evening all, I’m about to service my 2016 1.4 TDI Fabia SE and would appreciate a quick sanity check.

My car’s boot sticker shows QI6, which (as I understand it) means it’s on the fixed 10,000-mile / 365-day service regime – correct? The infotainment countdown seems to back this up, but I’d like confirmation.

The manual specifies VW 507.00 oil, but I can’t find an exact fill volume anywhere. From what I gather, it takes around 4.0 litres with a filter change, with the final amount to be confirmed using the dipstick procedure after filling.

Assuming that’s right, I’m planning to use Castrol EDGE 5W-30 LL, which is on VW’s 507.00 approval list and seems like the best value option.

Do these details tally with your experience? Any sage nods of approval would be much appreciated!

You’ve selected the right Spec and viscosity so don’t worry.

Around 4 litres give or take is correct. I do 20000 milesa year so do an interim oil change mid year (minus filter change). I extract using an oil pump via the dipstick and take out around 4 and a bit litres.

Thoroughness is good as well as frequency/need. I like to drain as much old oil and stuff out as reasonably possible that way more fresh new oil is going back in and is less diluted by the residue of old oil and stuff. I like to drain the old oil out, of the drain plug hole as hot/warm as practical and leave it draining as long as practical. I then give it a small flush of warmed (solar or water) fresh new oil to act as a bit of final flush.

I like the quality of Mann oil filters.

On refill better to under fill then do small top-ups, leave to settle then and dipstick checks. I fill to about three-quarters up the dipstick mark and check and top-up next morning or after first drive.

Ootohere has put up lists of engine oil capacities, for some reason VW don't seem to like owners knowing fluid capacities, and of course they have to have their own VW oil spec numbers and approved lists (which will vary with time and commercial contracts). I use Millers Oils EE Performance, not on the approval list AFAIK, I'm a rebel against VW. 😁

QI6 is Variable servicing.

They all come out of the factory with that set.

It can be changed to QI4 Fixed servicing easily.

It sounds like yours has already been changed.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I had a look but couldn't see that list of oil capacities. Would you mind sharing?

This link was very helpful. We used an oil pump to get the majority out, and transferred the waste oil into another container so it was pretty easy to replace the volume like-for-like. The final figure wasn’t a million miles off the 4.1L quoted by MPM.

The rest of the service was very easy. I took great pleasure in the seconds it took to sort the fuel filter versus the mission on my pal’s XC70, which we sorted at the same time.

Have you managed to reset both the Service and Inspection warning messages?

Thanks. AG Falco

Yes I did, thanks. I just needed to follow the trip reset procedure with the key in the ignition etc.
