Alternator Size

Featured Replies

Ive Recently had my Alternator give up, there isnt any Markings left visable on the current alternator and i see you can get both 90a & 120a Alternators.
Im Struggling to find any information on which is requied for a 1.9TDI 2005 and wounder if anyone know what is the recommened size

From memory my folks mk1 1.9tdi had 90amp but it was fairly basic with no extras so current load was fairly low. Check its not a clutch pulley as I think the diesels had them where as far as I know petrols didnt

@Dibble2 As @Alasdair1 implies, it could be the alternator clutch.

I suspect something else though, so does the battery light illuminate when you switch the ignition on?

OK, start with the alternator control wires. The battery light not illuminating usually means that one or both of them is disconnected or broken.
