Timing belt

Featured Replies

Hi just a quick one see if i can get the answer within the hour my Karoq is 8 years old and has 49000 on the clock some one said I need a timing belt change every 5 years but also I heard thats been changed to every 180000 miles or 15 years which is true ... Iam off to see the mechanic in a couple of hours to either order the parts or cancel the job ...... any thoughts .. thank you Gary

Good morning Gary, Skoda dropped the mandated 5-year belt change about two years ago to align their servicing with the rest of the VAG brands. I'm not certain what the change mileage is now - but I'm pretty sure it's more than 100K.

There is a whole thread on the current belt change recommendation.

Which engine does your car have, knowing that might help, my wife's 2015 Polo 1.2TSI which is from the EA211 family of VW Group engines, is currently at 52,000 miles and obviously just over 10 years old, I'm planning on getting the cam belt etc replaced very soon as I think "enough is enough".

It might depend on how long you plan to keep this car, ie why wait until just before you hand it in or sell it to pay to get the belt etc replaced when you can "enjoy" hopefully the benefit of not needing to worry about the belt starting to fail - or even worse find it has failed.
