Broken boot mechanism

Featured Replies

Hello,

So someone who won't be named shut my Skoda 1.6tdi s boot with a bit of extra force today. The boot is not an electric open, just a simple release mechanism.

The boot then refused to open. I did eventually get it opened by having someone press the release button while I lay inside the boot and pushed.

Now when the book is close, the boot is shown to be open on the cars computer and the boot lights remain on. I have removed the lights to stop wear on the battery. The boot does not lock and there is a bit of play when pulling on it but it does not open without being pushed from the inside. The electric motor noise is still present.

Is there a simple fix to this, or do I need a new mechanism?

Thanks

Hope the divorce goes smoothly!

As most boot locks are generic across VAG cars you can buy them on EBay for a quarter of dealer price. The one I got for our Polo was $23AU against dealer of over $100

Welcome to the forum.

Probably what has happened is that the catch has moved slightly from rebound with the 'extra' force shutting - take a look at both parts of the catch, they will probably have slotted mounting holes to allow for adjustment.

Incase anyone is following this, I got it fixed!

The latch mechanism attached to the "5th door" was knackered. The impact must have destroyed it's internals. The part is not very serviceable either. I bought a new one from my local dealer, £75. I removed the boot liner and replaced the mechanism. It's held in with two nuts so a very easy fix.

Does this mean that 'SWWBN' has to be especially nice to you for a while? 😁

I looked that up and got nothing 😬 (aside from some part number for something).

Can’t believe my divorce joke didn’t win any awards 😢

There must be some automatic auto-censor/auto-ban pop up message preventing users from risking dismissal from Briskoda by invoking profane words like yours! 😆
