There traffic has been particularly bad on my commute the last month.

A combination of end of season roadworks, accidents and random events.

I always program a destination even if it's just "home" as previously the navigation was informing me of traffic congestion & routing me a different way.

However recently, the navigation seems to have stopped this & always selects the shortest instead of quickest route.

On Friday it informed me my ETA to home was 18h45 and told me to take the highway exit and take the A roads.

As the traffic in front was moving ok I decided not to exit & a few seconds later it updated my route & with an ETA to home of 18h07 (almost 40 minute saving).

I was surprised it didn't already offer this quicker route to me.

In my Octavia with MIB1 I can choose fastest, eco, shortest route.

I can't find any settings like this in the MIB3 ?

It’s more anecdotal than indicative of anything - good time saving.

The manual doesn’t show anything like those sorts of options by the looks of it.

Tbh I tend to just use one of the ones on CarPlay - every time I think I know better than Waze I get it wrong; the only caveat is it relies on user data like the other main systems, just active reporting as well as macro data from speed etc.

😁😁😁 I learned this quickly as I was planying with it at the beginning!!

Now, is not impossible to "make it better", but this depends on how well you know the tricks of the roads you are going through ... if you know a few shortcuts or a couple of tricks - some of them not really allowed by the road code - you can significantly make some better time.

But in short, Navi are indeed getting better, but sometimes the keen eye of the "lookout" is still unbeatable ...

I've given up on trusting the MIB3 routes, it seems to offer 3 options, slow, slower and slowest, with no indication of why it chooses them. Even the fastest one it gives is consistently slower and longer than one from Google maps. If I ignore the built-in route and go the way I know is faster, it will eventually (after multiple "make a U-turn now" instructions) give up and offer the same final section that I had from Google at the start, at which point the arrival time invariably changes to a sooner arrival.

It also claims to have some sort of "learning" mode, but I've never been able to work out what that does. As an example, when I leave home I have two options to get to the main road. One takes the first left and brings me to the very busy main road where I'd have to turn right across 2 lanes of traffic, the other takes the 2nd left and brings me to the main road at a roundabout, easy to make the turn. No matter how often I've taken the road to the roundabout over the past few years, the SatNav always tries to send me down the 1st left to the awkward turn.

I've just put it down to another 'feature' of the MIB3 crap design.

This is also my experience & I can never understand the logic of how it chooses the route.

Often when I chose to ignore it, the ETA will drop 25%.

As for the "learning" I also cannot figure this out.

I've been to Europa park once last month and every single morning it offers this as one of my "suggestions" when I get into the car.

I drive every day to a small village where the kids go to school (using the nav to help with traffic issues along the way) and it never suggests this as a destination.

I always have to type it manually myself...

I think this is into the maps' information, and how the navigation chooses a logic "built-in" the maps.

Often when I make long travel solo, I tend to use Waze from Android auto on the main display, and separately on my trusty (less trusty now, but this is another story) Garmin Nuvi55 where the ashtray would be. This comes handy when one loses the signal, or in SRB where I turn phone off due to the very high phone roaming charges, plus I use the Nuvi as a "overall trip recorder" of the journey.

Now, both devices are set and programmed at the same time and with the same destination, yet often differ in route choosing and ETA ...
