Is it a good time of year to buy new?

Featured Replies

My car is looking like its going to need a few consumables, a service and an MOT before the end of August. Spending

depends if the dealer is trying to reach a target or not. Usual most struggle at the end of the year near xmas as no-one usual buys.

It's always worth having a look at the dealers and seeing what they might offer you

Speaking to a Nissan dealer earlier this week (for no particular reason, ahem), he said it was a tough time of year - most peoples' money is going towards holidays, and sunny days tend to be spent BBQ'ing, lounging about, going to the beach, etc. rather than buying cars.

So, yeah, get to the dealer, see what they'll do for you...if it's a deal you're happy with go for it, and try not to worry about whether it would've been cheaper to wait, etc. :)

Yeah, off to the dealers at the weekend, just doing research now to find my target prices. Need to go to a dealler really as I doubt my ibiza will sell privately - gearbox bearings changed and rattling clutch release bearing

just remember to try a few dealers for a good deal though

Yeah make sure you shop around and really waste their time and if possible make sure you drive at least three cars at every garage wasting as much fuel and time as possible!

... Sorry... Little rant bursting.. It was a long day.

Steer well clear of the car supermarkets! A mate of mine used to work at one in Rochdale (not sure if I can name it - mods?) where they would pressure washer the INSIDE of cars if they were dirty, then use a de-humidifier to dry it out!!!!!

Good luck anyway, as was said above give the dealers hell!

Indeed it is!

You tend to find that the best deals can be had at the end of each quarter, being 31st March, 30th June and so on and so forth due to the dealership targets being set for these dates.

Last month would have been a good month to buy as most places were very quite due to the football being on. August also tends to be pretty quiet due to holidays and if you were to order a car on a 56 plate sometime in August for September delivery, I would envisage you would get a pretty good deal.

I personally, would ask for prices and availability for taking a car now or on a 56 plate and weigh up the odds, it might be better to wait six weeks or so

Great, I'll do that:) . Only really interested in mid range diesels and no need to test drive the "spec" of the car so probably only 1 drive per dealer, first time round. I've driven 45K miles (in 26 months) in a now 8yr old 1.4 ibiza so any new car in the small family class should be a dream to drive.

Whether its 06 or 56 shouldn't bother me, just need to part ex the ibiza before MOT day - 26/08/06. I know it highly subjective but on something like a ford focus, what difference in value would being 06 or 56 make in 3 years time, even though the car might physically be the same age? Any informed estimates?
