Three month report - Furby vRS

Featured Replies

Well, three months into ownership and over 6000 on the clock already and it's time to report back. In general it's been great, love the performance (have done several sub 8 second 0-60s), the economy (getting in the high fifties on any run, no lower than the mid forties and a couple of low seventies on old man type runs to London in the early hours), the understated looks and the general nice fit finish and feel of the car. :D

There have been a few problems, but nothing to detract from the overall package.

I had a couple of dashboard squeaks and the front door speakers were vibrating a bit, but since I put my own head unit in and a bass box they've gone away - or maybe I just can't hear them anymore ?:D

I'm finding I need to clean the seats regularly as they do show up anything and everything. I find neat upholsery cleaner does the job, although sometimes I'm left with a watermark which then needs cleaning itself. They are still spotless though which isn't bad considering the amount of times my bike has been in the back and we've been camping and walking and all sorts of dirty activities (easy........;) )

I have recently developed a vibrating gear lever in neutral though and a slight but constant squeal from the brake area audible when I'm crawling around town - it goes when I apply the brakes, but it's a little disconcerting though. It's only started during this hot weather though so maybe when it gets wet it'll go away. I'm off to France for two weeks on Monday so it's gonna have to wait until I come back before I can book it in though. I find the black a complete bas***d to keep clean - I've got more flies on it now than live in Africa after just having driven up to London over Salisbury plain...oh and of course I've got the sttttutttterrring.

All in all though, couldn't be more than happy after three months. Have to say

though, I've yet to see a non vRS Furby with anyone driving less than about 70 years old ;) , and yet to see anyone acknowledge me in a vRS themselves :(

nice write up. glad your happy with it :) I always wave to another vRS, but only get waved back by other briskoda members! (and an old man in my town who drives one) :)

Glad you still like it

The gear lever rattle is a known issue - dealers know about it so give them a call :D

Glad your liking it, 42k on and I'm still rather fond of mine too!!

I often wave to other furbie owners, yet to get a wave back! The other half sayd I'm sick for do it though

I always wave too :D

a wave and a friendly toot, too

Recently drove to spain and back in mine. Sorted :D

Hell - that's a long way. We're going to Pyla-Sur-Mer in the bay of Arcachon near the Pyla sand dune. Should do 1500 - 2000 miles in the two weeks. Looking forward to the drive I have to say....

I've got the same type of low speed squeal from my front drivers brake (06 vrs) which stops when you touch the brakes, according to my local dealer its a known problem and its going back in tomorrow to have a modified part fitted that they've ordered in.

They also offered to remove the entire dashboard to try and get rid of a creek near the glove box but I've decided against it, likely to get rid of one squeak and end up with 3 more !

That'll be the alligators causing that !!

Seriously though, that's great that both my problems are known ones and fixable. Just hope I don't do any permanent damage driving to France on Monday as there's no chance of getting them sorted before I go !!

Didn't notice the other day that your in Exeter so SMC in Marsh Barton definitely know about the two problems.

Bought my car in Bridgewater as I didn't like the people in SMC. The salesman who I originally went in to see (with big sideburns) wouldn't budge from

i always give a wave and a beep but never got anything back except funny looks

Glad you like your car, im estactic with mine. Have it for 13 months now, 16,500 miles. Only real problem has been the brake squeel you talk about.

Squeels at low speed. but dissappers when the brakes are actually applied. My dealer was puzzled by it.

Have had both my problems fixed. The brake squeal was as known problem and has been cured with a modification to the handbrake whereby a weight basically keeps the handbrake 'off' a little so the pads aren't constantly touching the discs. The vibrating gear lever has been fixed with some sort of rubber bit fitted somewhere in the gearbox.

Did 2300 miles in France at an average of 55mpg and a totally faultless two weeks. :)

I've got around 32k miles on the clock in just over a year's time. All and all, the car's been excellent. Economy isn't exactly upto par with other diesels, but that's propably just my driving... I get around 45 to 48mpg constantly. But then again most of my driving is motorway (85 miles daily commute) and I tend to drive around 135km/h which is a fair bit over the national speed limit. Also I'm on my second set of tyres, I wore out the oem conti sport 2's and am now running toyo's. The contis gave me about 18k, which was pretty dissapointing. But then again, the car is an ex-showroom car that had about 1k on the clock when I got it, so might be someone had burned off a couple of mm of the threads allready.

After 32k I'm starting to get some dash & driver side door squeaks that are pretty annoying, but I'll work on them when I find the time. Inside's are also starting to get messy, but for that I can only blame myself - should have cleaned up the car a long time ago.

Anyway, on the car liking part.. I'm building me a new house atm and would really need a car that could do some towing.. was even seriously negotiating on getting a new van. But at the end the stealers didn't pay me enough for the furby so I figured fscuk them, I like the car too much to give it up for pennies. So, now I'm paying a bit more to get the stuff delivered plus giving my old man a hard time to borrow his car & trailer :)

As for next car, when the time comes, if I can afford it I'll go for an octy II diesel (vrs would be excellent) but if not - I wouldn't mind getting another furby vrs either. The best way to describe the car imho is "a bag of joy". In some perverted boy racer'ish way it's really enjoyable to see ppl's faces when I pass their "sport's cars" with my furby.

So far the car's stock, besides the pd160 mod, but I'm considering getting it a bit closer to ground with kw variante 1's & ordering amd oneclick for it.
