(Not) a CD player in my car

Featured Replies

Having taken delivery of a new Karoq SEL 1.5tsi Edition petrol&auto I was surprised to find in the glovebox what appears to be a blanking plate for a cd player sized unit!

Bit of an oddity in this day and age, anybody managed to repurpose the space for anything more useful assuming that is what is was? I think the plastic plate just levers off.

Also, didn't do my due diligence - no USB-c chargers in the rear passenger area? Only the tight pesky pair in the front console or have I missed something?

Thanks PD

That 'blanking plate' will be the front cover of the main infotainment unit as the screen in the dash is just a screen...

This. I wouldn’t go trying to pull the cover off expecting to find a random hole there. That’s the MIB unit for the screen.

+1 to the above. Think of the unit as a PC linked to a monitor on your desk.

The desk in this case being the dashboard.

Yes, leave well alone, manufacturers don't just "leave' legacy tech slots in new vehicles at the design stage..

(We'd have 8 track, cassette and push button radio, manual choke, manual washer pump, slots all over the dash 😂)

Thanks for the heads up all - no tinkering down there then. I thought the 'PC unit' was directly behind the screen.

Memories of my old 6 cd changer on a VW Bora back in the day...

Thx PD
