wheel bearings

Featured Replies

i replaced a wheel bearing back in november or so last year but the noise has started again, if i steer left it gets louder and virtually goes away if i turn right so assume its on the right hand side of the car.

but what i am also wondering is wether it could be something else other than a bearing? i didn't actually swap the bearing myself i just removed and re-fitted the hub and got a garage to prees the bearings for me, could they have damaged something?

the drivers side also had a recon half shaft when the gearbox was done 18months ago due the original getting bent :o

could it be something as simple as the retaining nut in the end of the drive shaft being loose maybe?

perhaps i should have bought the bearing from skoda rather than the cheaper aftermarket one from a motorist discount place :o

Looks like a trip to a man that can for you my dear boy.

Could well be the drive shaft CV joint.

Ross gave some good advice earlier this week when checking wheel bearings -

Jack up the wheel and rotate it whilst holding the spring and feeling for vibration.

that side CV joint is only about 18 months/5,000 miles old, surely it can't have worn out yet?

It's not always time/mileage related though.

Was it packed with grease properly? Is the boot still intact? Was it a 'pattern' part or OEM?

no idea on originality, my shaft(oo-er) was sent off to drive shaft UK and i got one sent back :)

i'll try and check the boot etc later when it cools down :)
