New turbo leaking already!

Featured Replies

My Octavia 2009 BKD 140BHP 2009, I have fitted a new, reconditioned turbo. A few hours later found oil drips on the floor. Here are pictures. The above is no leaking, I am not sure if the new gasket on the return oil is useless? I hope it isn't the turbo leaking from inside, it would be a nightmare to take it off again. Hope to get the answer soon.

Hi, where did you buy the recon turbo from and more importantly what gasket set did you fit?

I used paper gasket from eBay Partsmotion.

The reconditioned is from Turbo Rebuilt Ltd. They fitted new turbine etc, cleaned exhaust manifold.

I done a turbo change on my Sons bkd last month. It's an audi A3 2005 but the same. I found the turbo gasket kit my boy got was not great, it included oil return gasket aswell. After fitting 2 days later under boost and engine light. Thought straight away those gaskets are poor. I bought a gasket kit from Garrett and changed them, boom problem solved and running a dream

Also was the new turbine garrett or an import from China? A new garrett is 150 China 50 and they will fail rapid. So many turbo recon companies and rebuilders now use cheap import to save costs. The garrett gaskets and the one from ebay are like chalk and cheese

I took the gasket off; it looks bad already. It feels like a rubber gasket. I see it did not seal properly, with a line on the side. it is too small for my oil return feed pipe.

I bought this because I changed all the gaskets. You just need the 1 gasket, get a oem maybe from skoda dealer or a trusted supplier. That gasket you need should be less than a fiver.
