Featured Replies

Need Winter Tires for my brand new Elroq 50. It comes with 20 inch rims. But want to Buy 18 inch rims with 235/60/18. Google AI says there Exists 18 inch compact spare tire and brakes Front is not XL racing ???

It will fit or not ???. Many Advantages downsizing. Better comfort ride. Cheaper Tires. Not so easy to destroy wheels edges road and actually better range ??? .

The link you've posted is for a space saver wheel and tyre. Even though this is available in an 18 inche size the offset will allow for clearance of brake discs/calipers/drums whereas the alloy wheels may not. Looking at the Skoda accessories catalogue, winters aren't available in 18 inches anyway unless you go after market.

IMO you have 3 options

  1. Buy a set of winter wheels and tyres and swap them over when needed

  2. Buy a set of winter tyres for your current set of alloys and change them over each year

  3. Buy a set of all season tyres which will get you decent all round motoring here in the UK however, if you're planning on going into Europe during the winter, several countries require you to change to a full winter tyre.

What are all the Skoda approved wheel sizes for the vehicle?

These will be listed in the car's CoC (Certificate of Conformity).

There might be a white label on the car listing the tyre pressures for all of the Skoda approved wheel sizes.

235/55R19 and 255/50R19 are listed in the Elroq owner's manual as suitable for snow chains.

The VW iD Buzz uses 18" wheels for some models, ie. 235/60R18 8Jx18 ET45 front and 255/55R18 8.5Jx18 ET56 rear. Like the Elroq, the iD Buzz also uses a 170PS electric motor for its entry level model/s.

On the iD Buzz, 8Jx18 ET45 5/112 57.1 and 8.5Jx18 ET56 5/112 57.1 are available as steel rims and maybe alloy rims. They might also fit the Elroq, but you would have to check. Even if they both fitted, it's possible that a 255/55R18 8.5Jx18 ET56 rear wheel (from the iD Buzz) might not have enough inside clearance on the inside for snow chains, but again you would have to check.

Alcar 9383 8Jx18 ET45 5/112 57.1 steel rim 13.26 kg

Alcar 9384 8.5Jx18 ET56 5/112 57.1 steel rim 13.99 kg

I actually have the the ID BUZZ cargo with 18" steel rims so can check if they fit. Talked to the local salesman Skoda today about 18". He said that wanted to Use 18" rims but that was stopped.

Think this is politics. 19" steel rims looks strange almost Ugly compared to 18" steel rims

But you need the Tire sensors. The same salesman was talking about some sensor in the HUB ??? so no need separate sensors in the tires. Perhaps not Trust him ???

Look at what Skoda says is the size that is required when Snow Chains are being fitted. Then maybe point that out to the sales person. That sales person might be selling footware next month. Sales is sales.

On the Elroq at least in the UK, the wheels don't have TPMS afaik, I think they use the wheel speed sensor in the hub to detect speed variances with the wheels to detect flat tyres. So it does help somewhat making replacement wheels a bit cheaper as no need to buy the sensors.

I'll add, that you need to check what is approved. And that's not always simple for alternative wheels and tyres. As an example, some years ago we had a Roomster Scout. We already had some winter wheels and tyres from a Fabia, and they were also approved by Skoda for Roomsters, EXCEPT our particular Scout version. Now we could have just gone ahead but there's always a risk of insurance problems and so on.
