Random door locking/unlocking whilst driving and internal lights not working on door opening

Featured Replies

Good evening folks

I have a v clean 2008 fabia sport MK2. The central locking has started locking/unlocking itself randomly whilst driving. Sometimes when locking it when parked it'll sound like it's doing it twice.

Secondly if you flick the internal light switch across to work on opening the doors the internal lights are stuck on. Therefore no option other than to keep the internal lights switched off which is a pain.

Any ideas what it could be? Guessing it may be linked!

I had the door locking and unlocking as the vehicle was being driven along.Turned out before I bought it the previous owner had the inside steam cleaned and when they had been cleaning the carpet around the central console by the gear lever, moisture had got into the central locking button. When I took it out to examine it you could see the copper plates needed to be cleaned.

Once that was done problem solved.

May be the a similar thing with the light switch.

Thanks for the reply, that's probably a great shout. Did you have to remove much to get to it?

If it’s a manual, from memory you remove the sleeve around the gear stick to get access to the wires at the base of the switch, remove them, and the switch can be pop out from below. The brass surface of the switch can then be checked. I just cleaned it with a dry cloth.

That's brilliant thank you I'll give that a try tomorrow

My old Seat used to do the same. It had autolock that enabled at around 15mph. On mine it had a problem with the drivers door locking circuit board in door. Car would keep trying to lock once over 15mph and then unlock and lock etc.

I got my local garage to disable the autolock. How they did it I am not sure. Think it had something to do with vehicle settings/door set up. It may require VCDS to do it.

As your lights stay on when flicked to door opening/closing It could be that the door switch has failed/broken wire so the car thinks its still open but still tries to lock it once over 15=20mph
