6 speed DSG auto box oil change

Featured Replies

Apologies for all the questions, but been a while since I owned a Skoda...

Seems to be two trains of thought on the DSG auto gearbox oil change.. Change regularly or leave it be?

Having just bought the Superb and never had an auto in my life, and given its done 138k, I thought as i have little to nothing as far as service history that I would get the oil/filter changed in the gearbox..

Initial quote is £413 +VAT for oil, filter and health check (whatever that may be) which seems steep imho but if thats about average how often would you look to change the oil etc?

If a DQ250 6 speed wet clutch DSG there is a 40,000 mile service interval, oil & filter. Needs doing. ............. Leave it be is the DQ200 7 speed twin dry clutch DSG, which has 2 oils and no Service Regime, Guidelines, Schedule, etc. But some still get done after quite a few years miles.

Who is quoting you? What engine has the car? Can you check the Air Filter, the Pollen filter? What servicing history is there, Oil changed last, Spark Plugs or Fuel Filter if a TDI. Brake Fluid etc etc.?

ve had another quote which is much more reasonable and also closer to home. Once Ive had the two front wishbones and the light snsor done in a couple of weeks, ll look to get the dsg oil changed. I have as previously mentioned little to nothing as far as previous history so Im starting from scratch, hence the cambelt change..

@scubasad You never mentioned that cambelt change in this thread. So what engine has the car and how old? I see the 138,000 miles covered. EDIT / PS. now i see in another thread. ??? Is it a 2.0 TDI then?

yes it`s the 2.0 l tdi estate. Lauren & Klement version

Just checked my records and my car had it's fourth transmission service May last year at smidge under 160K miles, bill was just short of £460 + VAT but that was for the DSG oil + Filter change plus haldex diff oil (and filter that dealers don't admit exists let alone change) change as mine's a 4x4. So £413 + VAT does sound a lot for just the DSG service. That said, genuine VAG DSG oil is expensive at almost 26 quid a litre and needs 5 litres plus another 40 quid for the filter, o ring and sump plug. Suspect your price is from a main dealer, crazy labour rate will be what kills this. Some dealers offer a fixed price service, quick Google identifed a Scottish dealer doing the DSG service for £369 Inc VAT. But best bet is to find yourself a decent VAG indy and get then to do it using genuine VAG parts and labour rates that don't fund a s****y showroom.

Might be physiological but after each DSG service, gear changes always seem smoother. Could be some physical effect because as well as the oil and filter change, has a clutch adaptation / calibration which takes effect of clutch pack wear and optimises performance. So definitely worth doing from a driveability point of view as well as protecting the gearbox

The dealer showroom description was "sw@nky", the Briskoda smut filter obviously ignores the first and last characters of the word although some main dealers are also w*nk !!!

oddly enough the initial quote wasn`t from a main dealer, but the second quote of £300 inc vat was from a Skoda authorised dealer who I have used a lot in the past, so once the wishbones are done at my local garage, I will be getting it done at the Skoda authorised dealer.
