water ingress drivers footwell?

Featured Replies

After just spending out on Cambelt/water pump, gearbox oil change, both front wishbones and headlight sensor, I had rather hoped i`d cracked this but it appears i now have water ingress into the drivers footwell? It doesnt appear to be a great amount but it is worrying nonetheless. I have the panoramic roof that is also half a sunroof but there doesn`t appear to be any staining or wet around the headlining so am wondering if this might be a blocked scuttle or something like that? Is this a common issue and whats the best way to rectify please anyone?

Do you have a sunroof? If so, the drains are blocked or the drain tubes have detached. It's happened to me twice. I clean them out 4 times per year now.

Yes it does have the sunroof, but am really puzzled by this now. Substantial puddle of water yesterday. dried it all up, has been raining pretty much all night and this morning when I check barely anything at all just a small patch about 3" in diameter. splashes evident under dash near throttle pedal, but cannot feel any wetness under the dash on a cursory feel.. If it is the sunroof, how easy is it to access the drain hoses to check for blockages/or detachment?

Relatively easy mate. Probably worth buying some Sunroof Drain Cleaning Tool

If that doesn't work try pulling the headlining away around the sunroof and looking to make sure the rubber grommets/connectors are actually connected. I cleaned my drain lines from the sunroof (as you don't need to remove the headliner for that) only to realise that I had knocked the grommet away from the drain hole from the sunroof which then led to water running down into the footwell (because there is a drain hole near front of the drivers door)

Does this mostly affect the panoramic roof or is the smaller sunroof equally prone to leaking? If also the latter is there a known fix? Other than not having one.

@KirkJames As we all know (those ones who have been dealing with this issue), connected to the drain hole from the roof, there is a 90 degree bend, that holds the drain hose. Do you know is that cleaning tool will go through that bend? The last time I tried it, the hose came loose from that bend as it has very limited space..

I also noticed in my 2012 Superb the drain hoses have shrunk in length over the course of years.

I think it should but be careful. The other side was fine, very fiddly but got there in the end. If in doubt drop the headliner to make sure it hasn't detached anywhere.

I had wondered about using strimmer line? i have some 6mm line that i use for the heavy duty strimmer but still quite flexible. Am guessing that should go through to at least prove if there`s a blockage?

That should work

I’d check that your screen hasn’t come unbonded

It’s what happened to mine in drivers top corner.

Water was running down inside A pillar trim then in to foot well

I went to my local independant Skoda authorised garage in the finish. for the sake of an hours labour it was worth it.. Cleared the blockage in drivers side drain, checked passenger side too. All good and no more water inside.. And given the rain we`ve just had , it has had a bloody good test...

Glad ypu got it sorted mate.

sadly, it would appear the issue is not sorted after all the rain we have had. Opened car door Monday morning and found another pool of water on the rubber mat. I`ve been back to the garage and they are going to have another look on 18th feb (earliest they can fit me in). This now has me wondering if there is anywhere else this could be blocked apart from the front drains which have been dealt with, or if it is actually coming in from the windscreen? Extremely frustrating as I just want to enjoy the car, but all this is putting me off somewhat...

On my fabia I had to un rivet the front door speakers, remove them, install rivnuts in the rivet holes, re seal (tiger seal) and refit the speakers. this solved the issue for me

Since I last posted on 7th Feb, we have had all sorts of rain, torrential, misty rain, normal rain, whatever you can think of and nothing has come in so I cancelled the appointment to investigate further. Last night we had 50mph winds and driving rain and when I looked inside car this morning a very tiny pool of water around 2" diameter was on the rubber mat.. This defies logic so for my own piece of mind can anyone tell me or show me a pic of where the drivers side sunroof drain actually comes out under the wheel arch please? I`m going to try threading some 3mm strimmer line down the drain and see if it comes out to confirm the drain is intact first off.
