I relocated last year which means I now do a 400 mile round trip for work most weeks. Unsurprisingly I've racked up 10,000 miles in 7 months and the next service has come round quicker than I would like.

After a bit of back and forth with the service department they have put me on long life servicing. Apparently this is just a software update, they use the same oil regardless of the service schedule. Who knew?

Anyway, the car is now saying next service due in 9,400 after the 20 mile return journey from the dealers 🤣 The service schedule mystery continues. I will report back!

In other news, considering a low mileage MkIII diesel.... or an Elroq

It's not actually a software update - merely a change to the servicing schedule from Fixed (annual servicing) to Variable (mileage based service)

Are you sure that the servicing schedule change has been done correctly?

Looks like SERVICE RECEPTION has no idea what the SERVICE Tech cocked up. The VW508 00 / 509 00 is Long Life Oil. (As a TDI requires) 0w20 FS IV for fixed or variable servicing. (As was VW504 00 / 507 00, 5w 30 FS III or 0w 30 FS III) The only software change is setting the Service Indicator to Fixed or Variable. 9,600 miles / 372 days. or 24 Months / 18,000 -20,000 miles. PS. Usual mix up is them leaving Oil Service & Inspection Service at each year....

I wouldn't trust them to wash it properly to be honest (which is why I tell them not to wash it!).

They have set the car to fixed servicing, it should be showing 18600 miles (30,000km) and 2 years for oil service and inspection

I had the same thing with my Golf Mk8, and ended up having to print the official VW service intervals to give to my VAG specialist so that they would set it to variable service

A main dealer will try to steer you to fixed servicing as it makes them more money!

Update. Sure enough, 6 months and 10,000 (motorway) miles later the car is telling me it needs an oil service. This is the second dealer who has told me they've put it on variable servicing and not done so. A cynical person may think they do it on purpose 😐

Going to ditch the dealers and look for a good independent.

My VAG specialist fobbed me off when they first serviced my car, I bought at 2.5 years old with 7000 miles on the clock.

I thought VAG cars were set to variable from factory, but when I was able to download the service history I found it was on fixed servicing instead, I bet they reset it on purpose to make themselves more money.

At the 2nd service I went armed with the VW service schedule for Golf 8, and spoke to the service manager.

In the video of the service they showed it being set to variable using ODIS to prove that it had been set correctly!

I fear that a main dealer will try and fob you off as they want to make the most profit!

I am in the process of buying a 2021 Škoda Superb iV Estate (Facelift, 1.4 TSI PHEV) imported from Germany with ~105k km on the clock.

While checking the factory build sheet / PR codes, I noticed the car was originally coded with QI4 (Fixed interval - 15,000 km / 1 year). However, looking at the official digital service history from the German dealer network, all oil services were performed strictly according to the flexible LongLife schedule (QI6 - ~30,000 km / 2 years):

• 1st oil service: ~30,700 km (at ~24 months)

• 2nd oil service: ~61,700 km (at ~15 months)

• 3rd oil service: ~93,900 km (at ~14.5 months)

All services used VW 508.00 / 509.00 (0W-20) oil.

For owners of Superb iV / Octavia iV PHEVs built between 2020 and 2023:

1. What oil interval did your car come with from the factory? (Fixed 15,000 km / 1 year or Flexible 30,000 km / 2 years?)

2. What interval have you been running since? Have you kept the 30k km / 2-year LongLife schedule or switched to fixed 15k km / 1-year annual oil changes?

3. Any known issues or concerns with fuel dilution / chain wear on the 1.4 TSI EA211 PHEV when running the full 30,000 km LongLife interval?

I plan to switch to a strict 15,000 km / 1-year schedule once I take delivery, but I’d appreciate your insights and real-world experience on how common this factory-coding vs dealer-service discrepancy is.
