Car reliability

Featured Replies

When I was looking for Ocatvia's I spent ages looking for one with a low mileage. Now it has rolled over 100k I wonder why I bothered - you could pick a perfectly good, cheap, reliable Octavia with 110k on the clock.

My Japanese car, however, is at the dealers today with the engine warning light on

the engine is French. unlucky!

odd though that that is the bit that seems to have gone wrong and thats the bit that aint Japanese

Probably nothing I would imagine.

I had mine come on my Jap car when I changed the air box to an Apexi CAI, sensitive little bugger lol

Just reset the ECU and it went :D

I take it your on a few 'Z forums?

They've re-flashed the ECU and its solved the problem. When I asked what the problem was, they said "nothing really, they do it sometimes"

youv'e not had electrical equipment do random things? it happens all the time!

I'm just hoping it'll be in good shape when Mil brings his Fabia "giant killer" over to play.

The car's obviously complaining about being grannied about ;)

Sounds like my old Renault dealer

Lets face it. No matter what car you have it a luck of a draw if or get a "good one" or a "bad one" so to speak. To be honest that doesnt bother me. Its some of the dealers that **** me off.

Well so far it's got this mystery light that came on last week, the passenger seat creaks when empty and the gearbox makes funny noises when hot - the latter is apparently (according to the forums) a sign that I'll soon have an inability to change gear

Whoopy do.

Glad it has a nice warranty. It means I get a silly Nissan shopping car to drive around in. I think its called a "Note" and is kind of like a weird Micra, but slightly bigger - not sure what class its supposed to be in.

sounds like a good choice in car!:rofl:

It's supposed to be a mini-MPV, bit like the Ford Fusion and Vauxhall Meriva.

Its fine - its under warranty, it'll get fixed for free.

How is the 'Z anyway, still running her in?

No

I have discovered that it is a bit of a ch*v magnet though. To the extent that if I'm not in the mood it really annoys me :( Yesterday I had 3 ch*v'd up motors try it on with me in the space of 15 mins. One was so close behind I couldnt see his radiator grill in the rear view mirror - at 50mph

Still addicted to the noise, I make every excuse to go tothe shops in Lichfield (14 miles away) just because there is quite a long railway bridge I can drive under.

Other Z drives wave too  I've yet to meet one that doesnt'

I'm very glad it has ESP - only turned it off once last week when I tried to smoke it away from the work car park. I failed as she just gripped and off I went

The stereo is great, the bluetooth handsfree isnt, the seats are great, the interior door handles are not.

Its amazing how many miles modern cars can do without serious wear issues.

Better quality materials aside, I think a lot has to do with better quality fuels/lubricants, and the use of electronic managment and control systems.

One example is, 20 years ago we would often get cars/vans with as little as 30k on the clock, into the workshop requiring de-cokes, but now its unheard of at any mileage.

Aaaaah....those were the days

bill :)

mind you some old cars still did hefty miles. my old mk2 golf was well over 150k on original engine etc

and im sure there are plenty exceptions :)

Oh and where did yo uhear th eengine is French? A French car forum by any chance

It is actually based on a Nissan V6 that was produced originally for the US market.

We had a Volkswagen Golf that did well over 250k by the time we got rid of it. It never had any major issues and anything that needing fixing or replacing never cost more than about
