Dashcam recommendations for Superb 4

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to install a dashcam on my Superb Mk4 and I’d like to know what setups other owners are using.

I’m mainly interested in something compact, reliable, and with good image quality (day and night). My plan is to power it directly from the USB-C port in the rear-view mirror, but I’ve noticed that not every USB-C cable works with that port, and I’d prefer to avoid using adapters if possible.

Could you please share:

  • What dashcam model you are using?

  • What USB-C cable you are using ?

  • Photos of your installation?

Thanks in advance!

I have a NextBase in mine. They used to be my go-to brand for dash cams - I've had three in my vehicles, and I got them for my daughter, partner and mother too. However, I'm not sure that I could, in all good conscience, recommend them now. Last spring they made some changes to their Dashcam Viewer software which introduced a fatal bug into the Mac version - rendering it un-runnable on MacOS (certainly for me, and I'm aware of lots of other people who have the same issue). Their customer service has been shocking - they told me last April that "a fix is imminent", and that turned out to be the first of many lies. Bottom line is that, 9 months on and many "an update to fix the problem is just around the corner" untruths, there still isn't a fix. At least they've stopped saying it's "imminent" now, and are being more truthful by telling me they have no idea when it'll be resolved! So, basically, not-too-bad cameras, awful aftersales service.

Consider 70mai a-510. It can include rear cam as well.

I've been using 70mai 4k A800SE for about 8 months now (since I got the car). Front-facing camera only, didn't bother installing one in the rear. I got it for how much the A510 was at the time, but with these higher model number doesn't always mean newer/better...

  • No issues, so far I haven't seen it glitch and it hasn't melted under the Greek summer sun (yet)

  • Came with a USB-A connector...found a 20cm USB-A to USB-B flat cable. With the right cable, the install is fairly clean

  • It uses WiFi Direct to pull recordings on your phone. I haven't tried connecting it to the car's WiFi access point to make downloading easier (as you do need to disconnect CarPlay/Android Auto)

  • Quality is on par with other devices I've seen online, it's fair for what you pay.

  • A CPL filter might come in handy (can be bought separately for 70mai). The double front windshield can cause interior reflections

Nextbase.. no problems.

USB cable.. right angle ends, 20cm length, USB C - USB Mini ..

VIOFO A329 front & rear, HK4 hardwire kit (to enable parking mode), VIOFO Bluetooth remote control. CPL on both cameras. Front camera is mounted high up on the passenger side, can only just see it behind the rear view mirror from the driver’s seat.

I briefly installed a VIOFO A139 Pro on the drivers side and powered it from the USB-C socket in the mirror console but I found it a bit obtrusive there.

I’ve used various VIOFO cameras over the last 10yrs, build quality is excellent and never had any problems with them. The very first one I bought 10yrs ago is still working fine in my wife’s car.

Thank you all for your replies. I’ve been looking at different dashcams, and Viofo seems to fit best in the upper part of the windshield.

@Rifleman could you please show me a few photos of the two cameras installed in your car? Thx.

This is an earlier post of mine with pics of the A139 Pro fitted on the driver’s side.

I’ll take pictures of the A329 and post them here later.

Thanks for the pictures, it looks good and clean installed, I like it. I'm going to buy Viofo but I haven't decided on the model yet. 👍

I have a Nextbase 622GW front and rear which I had on 3 other vehicles and no problems with any of those but the lates on my 2025 Superb L&K I cannot get the GPS and Speed stamps on recordings. It was professionally fitted by RS Connect via Nextbase. Been in touch with Nextbase and they say it may be an interference with the de-icer built into the windscreen I cannot see any wires in the screen (unlike the other 3 vehicles). I think Nextbase are bull****ting me to be honest. So, on that basis, I cannot recommend Nextbase any longer. If you had asked me 6 months ago I would have said Nextbase. Anyone else had similar issues ?

The windscreen heater uses a conductive film rather than wires. Ifyoucatch the windscreen in certain lighting conditions you can see a coloured layer inthe screen. Where is thecamera mounted?

Nextbase are indeed bull****ing you - just as they've been bull****ing me for the last 10 months about the fatal bug in their MacOS viewer software. My Nextbase is mounted on the windscreen of my Superb, next to the rear view mirror, and locks onto GPS with no problem.

I had a 70mai 510 on my Octavia and it was great, so I decided to get the A810s for my Superb, only to discover that it doesn't work with the rearview mirror usb-c. I couldn't figure out why. I had to wire it directly to the fuse box (but now it works 24/7, so it's fine anyway).

I have a Nextbase 622W in my Mk3 Superb. It works ok but I agree with others that their customer service is awful and very unhelpful. I had to send mine back because it wouldn't charge properly and even after returning it it is still poor. Very unhelpful on the phone too, if you can get hold of them.
