Featured Replies

Im trying to replace the filter for a kN but my local Ripspeed(halfords) dont have a clue when i say Skoda is this the same filter used on the golf 18t !! if not where can i obtain the correct filter.

Thanks Dave.

I have Green Panel Filter in stock.... for Octy, Golf, Leon 20VT.....

Same kind of thing as K&N, but lighter oiled. (cotton gauze)

Look here for the part number http://www.knfilters.co.uk/ looking at it they only list a 57i kit but you might want to dig around and get the part number for the golf

646531 is Greens Panel Filter Part Number...

I have been looking at replacing the standard filter with a K&N panel filter on my Octavia vRS for a while now. Is there much improvement? And whats and where is the maf sensor?!

Regards

MAF = Mass Airflow Sensor

senses the amount of air coming into the engine so the ECU can adjust the fuelling.....or something like that.

it sits in the pipe coming from the airbox

if one of these fails on a Scooby it can be goodbye engine, dont know if same on the VAG 1.8T

if you use an oil soaked filter the maf sensor can get coated in it which will bugg3r up the readings going to the ECU (not a good idea) ECU thinks less air is going through than actually is and therefore provides less fuel which on a Turbo engine can cause big problems. lean mix = BANG

as for performance gains on a Skoda I have no idea as I havn't fitted one yet, I would think that the gains are minimal if the filter you are replacing it with was clean.

I used to have a Scooby and did notice some gain when I changed the filter though i think most of this was due to the old filter being very dirty and clogged.

The following picture shows the location of some of the more commonly discussed components in the Octavia 1.8T's engine bay:

I am not sure which member originally posted it but I kept a copy and have put it in the gallery for future reference. I believe that the MAF is the part directly underneath 'MAF' in the diagram.

Here is another view showing the MAF at the top right, with the large rubber pipe attached to the LHS.
