Christmas tree of warning lights

Featured Replies

Hello all

My 2007 scout 2.0tdi manual has decided it doesn’t want to live any longer.

Abs and traction control lights have been on for 2 years and not bothered me.

The other day I had the airbag light on with airbag fault and steering light is flashing Orange to red. Speedo doesn’t work and rev counter just goes up and down. Car also struggles to start, sometimes it will fire up then die again, it’ll do this a few times then eventually start and stay on. Driving is a bit odd as well, power is on and off.

Normally a christmas tree of warning lights etc is due to low battery. What voltage are you reading with car off and also running. If the voltage is good then I would suspect either a failing cluster or in my case the cluster needed removing, cleaned contacts and socket and refitted. It had either come loose or there was some corrosion at connector. The starting and stopping could be that the ecu isnt reading cluster and puting imobilser on. If battery is good check earths as well as a poor earth can cause voltage drop

Battery is good, checked that with a tester and alternator is good. I have done a voltage drain on the ecu and nothing changed. I did remove the cluster to remove the alarm behind it 🤣 as it was doing my head in. I half thought it could be the ecu on its way out, launch/snapon doesn’t read some of the modules either

Maybe cluster isnt fully home in connector or as said maybe earth fault

When it start and shut off could be an immobilizer issue, i belive something is wrong with the cluster or a ground like said or sometingh with the elecronics
