Rear jet washer

Featured Replies

These jet washers are very expensive. Is there anyone who knows where to get them a bit cheaper?

It's a standard pasrt across the VW range. IIRC I get mine from www.skoda-parts.com for a few pounds, genuine.

Mine seem to block up every few months. Useless.

I clear mine out with a dress-making pin nicked from the memsahib's sewing box. It seems to clog both the jets and the feedpipe inside, usually with rust particles.

Plus I've found that some screenwash additives appear to be incompatible with each other and when mixed produce a jelly like gunk that jams the washer jets.

Yes, although mine blocks up even though I stick the same stuff in! I can sometimes improve it by clearing it with a pin, but not always. The worst part of getting a new one is having to set it up to stop spraying the road!

The jelly-like gunk is a by-product of bacterial degradation of the organic component of the screenwash additive. Best way to stop it is to use a wee bit of disinfectant in the tank. My day job was as an industrial chemist and I spent some years working with surfactants.

If my jets block with general road muck thrown up, I also clear the pipe by operating the washer for a few seconds without the jet in place.

If it's blocking regularly it suggests muck in the system, not that surprising on a car of possible 10+ years of age. Perhaps worth accessing and cleaning the reservoir bottle and flushing out the pipes before shelling out for a new jet. I have the same, my15, and (touch wood!) mines not blocked in the 4 1/2 months I've had it.
