Wet drivers footwell

Featured Replies

Drivers side footwells on my vrs have been gathering water. The sunroof drain was the culprit before but this seems fine. There was some gunk Under scuttle but I poured some water in it and it’s draining as it should 🤷🏻‍♂️

Mate wet vacced it for me and carpet seemed fairly dry near sills, all on front and rear footwell.

Any help gratefully accepted!!!

Can anyone think of another likely source?

Door seals. If they've perished over time the door doesn't seal correctly and water trickles down and sits on the sill and pours into the carpet. Another one, which I have actually just done, is the bungs under the car. If they are missing, water is splashed up and soaks the underlay.

Double check the scuttle and make sure the bung is there to stop water leaking directly into the cabin.

As for wet vaccing. It'll help, but you'll need to lift the carpet and remove the underlay and thoroughly dry it out as its like a sponge...

Cheers for tips!

Which bung in scuttle?

I was for taking scuttle cover off but wiper arm was too tight on spindle and didn’t have a puller. 🙄

Mine leaked at door card as seals for window were shot and plastic liner had become detached.

Tip for that but be careful. Get your palm and place it on the spring side of the arm. Push down repeatedly softly and this should be enough to dislodge it without a puller.

Passenger side where the bonnet wire would be for a lhd. Sometimes the bung is missing there. But also check the bottom wire on the right side and ensure the bung is tight or it all leaks to the carpet.

i had a same problem... water all around the car... no sunroof and door seals like new... car is 2008 year and 200,000 km on board... remove the door card panel and check for leak in foil and glue... i will try to put pictures how i did it... from this day i never have problem but i did it on all doors...

It’s all at drivers side so could be the bung around the bonnet cable.

Doesn’t seem to be coming through door seal or the plastic behind.

Cheers again for siggestions 👍

Getting there. Next would be sitting inside while someone poors water over door and bonnet/screen to see if can be seen coming into the cabin.

Double checked the door seal, assume the carpet around sill would be damp too, no signs of splits etc in seal.

Ok hopefully this is now sorted! Sunroof drain was my first check and they appeared clear. Evidently it wasn’t fully clear. Today got a large drip on my head after heavy rain. When checked again it wasn’t clearing, cleared some gunk out and water trickled through the drain, went at it again and a deluge of dirty brown water came flowing through!!!

Pic shows what splashed from drain onto door!

Fingers crossed that’s it sorted
