A tiny bit of advise

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping this is a quick one, but im having a bit of a nightmare trying to replace my coolant pipes, i thought it would be simple and boy was i wrong. I love learning and dont play around with cars very much, but decided to bite off replacing the bottom rear coolant pipes after they started to leak after corrosion.

This fine specimen is where i have become stuck.

I Havent actually got to removing this yet as it is stuck behind the below image which needs to slide back which involves removing all the screws/nuts etc.

My biggest challange from the above image is the below M10.

At the moment i'm trying to remove it from underneath the car, as it doesn't seem possible to get to it from above the engine bay - I'm using a good old fashioned ratchet but from underneath, there just doesn't seem to be enough room to get any sort of meaningful leverage to start to undo it.. I was just wondering if im overlooking something, do people do it from the top? Or is there a special tool used etc? It in such a tight space i just cannot see how people get it undone..

Any help, guidance would be massively appreciated.

Cheers,
Martyn.

Ratchet with multiple flexible extensions and alot of fiddling from underneath would be my first try

Maybe from above but have to remove bonnet so you can lie on top of the engine and reach down

You havn't said which model car yours is. That's the DPF that you need to move. Not an easy job. To change mine on my diesel vRS, the garage had to loosen the front subframe fixings so it could be moved in order to give enough clearance to get it out. When it was returned to me the steering wheel wasn't centred so it had to go back for adjustment of the subframe mounting bolts....

+1 on the DPF. Many places will fiddle with the subframe or suspension components to get it out more easily - and that's a big job for a driveway.
