Rear bearing change

Featured Replies

Hey all

So in order to finally resolve my rear wheel speed sensor woes, Im going to embark upon a rear bearing hub change.

Autodoc kindly appear to have a detailed enough PDF guide on the process, which Im going to follow:
https://club.autodoc.co.uk/manuals/how-to-change-rear-wheel-bearing-on-skoda-superb-estate-3v5-replacement-guide-35914

I note its listing the centre XZN #18 torque spec as 70Nm +90degree - I was expecting a 180NM + 180degree spec as Id seen in youtube videos previously - anyone shed any light?

Does that guide look correct - particularly its torque values?

Ive attached PDF also, as you might need to register (free account) for that link above

Part finally arrived. Went with an SKY VKBA 3644 which was compatible according to winparts, and looking on the skf website, they say the same

SKF themselves provide a short repair instructions download if you put in that product code (which I cant easily attach here as it comes as a html page), but below snippet from it:

So my reading of that is 200NM and a further 90degrees - so I think Im resigned to that. I normally work on motorcycles, so hopefully my breaker bar (and me myself) is up to the task o

As closure here - changed today with no major dramas...

Main wheel hub bolt was very tight to come off alright, so I went with the 200+90degree's on reassembly.

Thankfully I was also able to maneuver the brake disk off without taking the carrier off.

The caliper could be removed from the carrier with just some awkward 7mm allens (hidden under little plastic caps). It was then swung out of the way and suspended with a bungie cord, and I had plenty off access to remove disk, and hub then.

Reassembled, codes cleared, and test drive stayed all clear - happy days
