Noise when turning the steering wheel to left

Featured Replies

I hear a slight creaking, or rather a subtle clicking sound when I turn the steering wheel to the left, for example in a roundabout or during a left turn. The sound seems to come from inside, around the steering wheel. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, steering wheel clock spring replaced without question under warranty on my 2024 built 1.5 SEL. Even after changing it there is an odd 'tick' coming from the same place on turning the wheel, but the creak is gone. The creak was around the 8 o'clock position.

Plenty of after market options for the clock spring (mine was warranty so didn't use one). Part number replaced on mine was 2Q0 959 653 (yours may be different) and also a new steering wheel bolt which is supposed to be changed every time the wheel is taken off, part N90799102. I don't know if they had to code in the new one.

Thanks. Mine isn’t like that yet. I hear more of a clicking-type sound. When I turn it with the engine off, I don’t hear anything—only when the engine is running, so the power steering is active. Only when turning left, around the 10 o’clock position, something clicks softly once or twice.
