Hello all,

I'm looking at picking up a 68 L&K 2.0 TDI 190 4x4 estate with 85k miles and had needed some advice.

It appears in the service history that the Haldex has never been touched. I talked with a local garage who suggested this shouldn't be too much of an issue, just that the filter will need cleaning out and new oil. Is this realistic or is there a good chance it may need a complete unit in the near future if it's never been touched? I'm fairly confident it's working on the test drive, as some spirited take-offs that would've resulted in wheelspin in the FWD 150PS version I used to have were drama free.

Additionally, I plugged in my OBD scanner while on the drive, and there are quite a few error codes present relating to low voltage on some of the comfort/accessory systems.

As far as I can tell, all the functionality is there, including the heated steering wheel. The car has been sat with the dealer for at least 6 months, so is this likely to be down to being sat for so long? Is there anything else I should possibly look at?

Lastly, the first owner seems to have been somewhere in NW Scotland with some coastal air, so there is some corrosion like on the bonnet latches, a small patch on the boot and various other spots in the engine bay:

From what I can see of the chassis and suspension components, these all look like reasonable surface rust, but are there any other parts that are particularly prone or vulnerable to corrosion?

Have a look at the front and rear sub frames as they take the brunt of road salt. Also if possible drop out the inner arch liners at the front as you tend to get muck collect on the rear edge under the guard and corrode the front edge of the sill.

Those errors are likely due to low voltage sitting at the dealer. I would ask for a new battery to be fitted. Probably overkill but might save you £200 further down the line.
