1.2tsi Oil Pressure Warning

Featured Replies

Evening folks,

Was doing an oil change in my wife’s 1.2tsi earlier (along with the breather valve replacement), all going well until I started the engine which sounded really rough at the top end. Took it round the block, still noisey. Bit of searching on here and found a few threads on filter o-ring being left in. Filter off, found the o-ring, all good. Engine still sounded rattly but a bit quieter…drove home and when I came off the motorway the oil pressure light came on. Pulled over, checked everything and all good. Decided to head to my local garage and just leave it there till tomorrow. Any thoughts on this? Engine sounded fairly normal by the time I got there but the oil pressure light came on twice again (stopped both times to check everything). Have I lunched the engine?

What year is your 1.2 TSI? Look at pinned thread at top of the Fabia mk2 on the Oil Filters and wrong sizes.

It’s 2014 mate. I forgot to say that the new Bosch filter was different to the 1 I removed. I ended up putting the old 1 back on…no idea I know but I was running out of options

Don't bother with Bosch filters, just look at that thread where they cause so much trouble.

Buy genuine from Skoda for just a few pounds more. Much cheaper than buying a replacement engine/car

Yeah 5W 30.

Aye, wish I’d know about the oil filter issue. Bought through Opie oils, have used them loads over the years with no issues. Just worried I’ve wrecked the engine. It did sound pretty much normal after being on the motorway but the oil pressure light came on a few times.

It's Bosch themselves that seem to supply the wrong filter with the correct equivalent part number on the box and/or the filter, have a look through that thread in the mk2 Fabia area.

You probably have done a little damage; any time the oil pressure is low enough to make the engine noisy is damage occurring, and if the pressure switch is triggering a warning that is worrying, but wait until you have a new, correct filter fitted before worrying too much.

Thanks for the info mate

Update guys, just been told by my mechanic that there are traces of metal in the oil…possibly big-ends gone. New engine/refurb time. 😩

The worry with seeking a replacement engine is to imagine how few of them have never had this oil filter 'gotcha' happen to them over the last 12-16 years or whatever.

I'm in the market for one myself, though not urgently. Feels like a gamble, more so than with other engine types.

Have I misunderstood?

All was OK until the oil change then, despite a rattling engine, you took it on a motorway run?

The engine was a bit rattly but nowhere near as bad. Mechanic across the road said it might be the chain tensioner not being primed causing the rattle. In hindsight I shouldn’t have driven it at all.
