Skoda Yeti First Car Buy — Sense check

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

In the market to buy my first Yeti – main use will be driving out of London to go on trips camping, cycling etc.

I'm looking at this 2016 1.2 TSI SE model which seems to be a pretty good deal, however its quite far from me so before making the long journey and have my decisions influenced by that, I was hoping someone else could sense check this for me – I don't really know anyone well-versed in Skodas so would appreciate any advice you owners could give me!

Much appreciated

Hi, it looks too cheap for the mileage + year compared with other available cars?

Thats what I thought tbh hence the check haha.

Just got the service history – it had the timing belt + water pump changed in 2024 which is good, however failed its MOT recently..

It's a nice looking car, but I would walk away needing welding underneath and the prospect of more. Unless you were to buy it much cheaper without the mot and welding done and know a good welder who would do the welding to a good standard, not just a cover it patch and loads of underseal to hide it.

Yeah I’m starting to lean to walking away from this. Would it definitely be a welding job, rather than just replacing the part?

It doesn't feel right - it should be more money, but that's just a gut feeling based on having bought a lot of cars! The horn not working is an odd one - has it been in an undeclared / not claimed bump in the past, as they don't normally fail unless something has caused it to fail.

I think I agree with you – will swerve this one and keep looking elsewhere, thanks guys!

Doesn’t it even have a current MOT then? Cant check as cannot see the VRN.

It's three years younger than my Yeti and got 15,000 less miles on the clock yet seems to carrying a lot of problems - like it's lost its nearside mirror? I may be a natural worrier but it seems like it might have had a hard life in the past and for me that would be "keep looking".
