Erratic changer behaviour?

Featured Replies

Hi to All

Today, my cd autochanger decided to have a bit of a wobbly. it will report errors on discs sometimes, play them fine other times. The changer also reports error if it is switched on with a disc halfway through a track and needs to have the disc re selected, when it generally plays after an attempt or two.

I can hear it changing discs OK. Is this a trip to the dealer job or possibly just a dirty laser lens? If the latter, are normal cd lens cleaner discs OK in the multichanger?

Chris

Mine has little tantrums every now and again.

Sometimes it refuses to play certain CDs. Sometimes it refuses the disk and switches to the radio.

My common resolution these days is to take out the CD cartridge and shake it about a bit. For some reason this seems to work.

Mine's worst in cold or very cold/damp weather.

Suppose another option would be to keep the cartridge in the house...

Dealer blew some air through mine and put a cleaner through it they said.

They also checked the connector under it.

As to if they are safe, I have no idea which one they used in it so no idea which is safe.

The cd changer and the single cd in the radio don't like playing "Copied" cd's

Mine seems to work as well on those as it does on anything else. Depends ont he age and reflectivity of the CDs and whether they're CD-Rs or CD-RWs.

I've had no problems directly related to CD-Rs though.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. It seems that something has changed as it is refusing to play CDs it used to play just fine. Problem has got worse today as well. Looks like dealer job to me. I dont want to put a cleaner in and find it incompatible with the changer invalidating the warranty.

The problem is not related to humidity / condesation either as I have tried warming a CD and putting it in.
