Having problems with Kamiq

Featured Replies

Hi,

Bought my Kamiq in January from Arnold Clark on PCP.

It’s a 1 ltr automatic. Loved the test drive etc so signed the dotted line.

Been having issues.

I’ve had a knocking noise from the roof, with the infotainment display switching on and off at the same time.

Random juddery downshifts.

When I reverse while holding the brake, it starts jumping about.

Seems like it’s one thing after another.

I’m a few months in and I’m at my wits end with the thing.

Any idea wots wrong / advice please ?

Steve

Welcome to the forum. Is this a new car you bought where simply you get issues dealt with under the warranty? Or a used car with Issues & if it has faults also needs deal;t with without you being panned off by AC employees? Consumer rights, Fit for Purpose. So new or used, if used how old and how many miles? What history does the car have as far as Servicing or Warranty work already. PS, please explain reversing and holding the brake? Touching the brake pedal does cut power / disengage drive/ open clutches. It is a dsg (Semi Automatic) use one foot, do not touch the accelerator and at the same time. Use both feet.

Sorry. It’s a 22 plate with 16k on the clock.

It reverses pretty quick so I tend to keep foot on the brake while doing so.

How long a warranty did you get with the car? Are Arnold Clark taking it in to diagnose and fix any faults? Ok foot on brake reversing if not on the accelerator, but your tick over speed is maybe too high. What servicing did it get, were the spark plugs replaced at 4 years? Full Main Dealer Service History of servicing as per Regime, Recommendations, Schedule, Advice from the Manufacturer. PS. I would have a check of the air filters condition. It might never have been checked after fitted at the factory.

I’m sure the warranty is 6 months so I’m going to contact them just now.

The downshifts sometimes can be quite jolting, which I suspect isn’t normal.

It’s my very first automatic. I only use my right foot so no problems there lol

You said in your previous post you reverse with both feet. Not the way to do it.

Can you point out where I said that ?

@Ssssstevo I took it from what you posted that it is reversing quite fast just when in reverse which is why i mentioned tick over RPM. Is that right? Have you tried using the Hand / Parking brake to retard the speed a bit rather than the foot brake? I think the car needs checked. What RPM is it at as you select R? With AC off.

As you said it reverses pretty quick I assumed you had your right foot on the gas and the left on the brake. It shouldn’t reverse that quick on tickover. As Evolution13 said.

Arnold Clark warranty on used cars is only 60 days

^^^ Unless they do the 'Special Offer' as part of The DEAL. where you get free CERTIFICATE for an Extended Warranty & Servicing and a MOT. Which is anything but free and means they can Reduce what is their Profit as shows as 'Their Expense'. Tax being paid on the Profit. When the car goes in for a Service in a year & a MOT, you might get lots of Advisories and even a Fail of the MOT on something that it Failed on when Arnold Clark's MOT'd it a year earlier and was 'Repaired' then got a pass. Arnold never got where he did being 'Fair', and the business continues without him but taking the P1$$b just as it has for many decades.

Must admit I use A C whenever I change cars, such a variety of makes, but mainly because the cars now are so complex even a 60 day warranty is preferable than trying to get satisfaction from the backstreet cowboys we have round here whose cars are, in the main, straight from the auctions

Cars from AC can be straight from Auctions as well or bought from various sources & not just trade in's. They buy in the same way as WBAC does direct from sellers.

I keep my foot on the brake when reversing. My car doers not need any gas when backing out of the garage when cold. Reversing when warm seems more controlled. but still foot on the brake and not on the gas.
