Hybrid IV Artifical Intelligence?

Featured Replies

We are currently travelling in France after purchasing our Superb Sportline IV last month. I put the car on charge in Le Chartre-sur-le Loir yesterday, just outside Le Mans, at a bargain public charge price of 30 euro cents per Kw to 90% or 19.61 kWh, and headed off to Angouleme, a circa 200-mile drive. Charge points just above the top left of the roof of the car.

The car almost refused to use electricity for the lower speeds when we were heading for the A28 and then used it sparingly until we passed Tours. Once we were rerouted by the Sat Nav after Poitiers to avoid congestion on the A10, the hybrid system kicked in with almost full electric drive for the detour, albeit at lower speeds of up to 80 km/h and then returned to standard intermittent used all the way to Anguoleme, where the hybrid battery was fully depleted (we also toped up with 25l of E5 enroute), on arrival.

This is very different behaviour when we use it at home, where it will use up all of the electricity first; I did notice the “Foot off your Accelerator” was regularly complemented with high levels of hybrid regen to “brake” the car down when approaching roundabouts and certain complex junctions.

So my observation is that the battery used is very intelligent and would appear to be mapped to the Sat Nav destination and expected road conditions, we achieved a combined 78.5 mpg and we are near fully loaded!

Using the Electroverse App from Octopus, which finds more charging points than the Chargemap App, which I also have an account for.

The Superb Combi is now resting for a few days until we head off to the Dordogne, where I will attempt an enroute 100% Tesla charge and report back.
