About 2 months ago my MIB1 MMI (5Q0035840A) kicked the bucket and I decided to upgrade it to a MIB2 Amundsen. I bought the 5Q0035874A Amundsen MIB2 and the 5E0919606 8 inch Columbus screen, got the component protection removed and there was no sound. Not knowing I had to also swap out the Canton amplifier for a MIB2 one, I gave up on it and bought a working original MMI. The problem now is that even with the original MMI there is still no sound after component protection removal. OBD scan gave me the following fault codes:

Left front bass speaker - Fault code B105F13

Right rear bass speaker - Fault code B106713

Right rear treble speaker - Fault code B106813

Left rear treble speaker - Fault code B106613

Left front treble speaker - Fault code B106113

Left rear bass speaker - Fault code B106513

Right front treble speaker - Fault code B106413

Right front bass speaker Fault code B106213

Now I'm debating on whether I should stick with the original MMI or get a MIB2 amplifier in hopes that after component protection removal the speakers will start working again.

Sounds like the replacement unit is coded for a car without Canton, so you need to adjust the coding using a diagnostic tool such as OBDeleven or VCDS.

I managed to change byte 11 to external MOST and byte 19 MOST from off to on. Now with these changes i heard my subwoofer amplifier turn on (not the factory amp), but still no sound. Are there more bytes that need adjusting?

It might be coding, or even dataset.

Some things need to be clarified:

1. 5Q0035840A is Bolero MIB2, not MIB1

2. Assuming original unit was 5Q0035840A, the CANTON amplifier you originally had must have been for MIB2 too

To clarify all the doubts I need VIN, I will PM you to get it.

1. Originally your car was equipped with 5E0035840A, not 5Q0035840A, so it was MIB1 Bolero.

2. It was also equipped with CANTON MIB1 amplifier 8V0035223.

3. When changing glove box unit to MIB2, e.g. Amundsen 5Q0035874A, you also have to swap CANTON MIB1 amplifier to CANTON MIB2 amplifier 3Q0035466A or 81A035223.

4. Component protection must be removed from new amplifier.

5. New glove box unit must heve component protection either removed or must be patched to have component protection disabled.

6. You have to set byt 04 in new glove box unit to 00 and byte 11 to 02.

7. You have to set adaptation channel "IDE01996-MAS00847-Installation list: specified installations-Digital Sound System Control Module" to "Yes"
