Engine mount play

Featured Replies

I noticed a knocking sound when I drive a little harder and when changing gears from first to second in my Karoq 1.5 tsi (manual), and knocking sounds over bumps and the speed bump, I did a movement test but in place, is it normal for the engine to move like this and knock on the mount or should I replace it? it's a hydraulic mount.

Video is on my car. Pictures are from web, new mount distance.

Dont think it should move that much. Havent come accross hydraulic mounts before but reckon it should be tighter than in the vid. Is there any sign of fluid underneath?

My BMW 740 Sport has "hydraulic" engine mounts that eventually lose the fluid which is actually more like a gel. The engine then drops onto the cross-member with consequent 'orrible vibration. Should be an easy swap, unlike the BMW which are a b*gg*r to get at because of the exhausts....

There’s no oil around it, but my previous car—a Renault Megane—had a mount like that too; it was soft and wobbly, whereas it had been firm when new. The Škoda is 7 years old and has 100,000 km on it.

Reckon that amount of play is excessive especially as your getting a knock. I would get it changed or at least looked at.
