EPC LIGHT 5.5K REVS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys new to the form really happy to be here!

2015 Skoda Octavia Vrs 230K Kilometers

There is an issue i've been having for quite some time which I believe I know the fix for except I'm not 100% sure as it requires a lot of time and money that unfortunately I do not have due to work and other commitments.

To mention before asking I have:

  • Brand new spark plugs

  • Newish (10k) Coil Packs

  • New Fuel Injectors

  • Carbon Cleaned Intake Valves

  • Stage 1 Racingline High Torque Tune

  • Brand New Single Mass flywheel clutch

  • Full Racingline Intake System

  • New PCV System + Piping

  • New Sump

With that out the way I have been getting a code where everytime i go above 5-5.5k revs my car throws an EPC light code. Turn the car off and it disappears completely and the car acts like complete normal again but does newly display OBD Codes

  • P130A00 CYLINDER DISABLING - ELECTRICAL FAULT IN CIRCUIT

  • P030400 CYLINDER 4: MISFIRE DETECTED

Now as you can tell almost everything that usually is the reason of problem has been done which to be fair all needed to be done anyway. But now my suspicions look towards something else being the Valve Springs. My Specialist Mechanic which recently did my car with a few upgrades (plus a lovely $6000 bill) didn't think it was that and replaced the Spark Plugs.

Just wondering is there anything else that could be the issue? I'm a bit lost at the moment and would rather get some other opinions before opening up the top end

Something doesn't look right to me - the Octavia vRS has a 2.0L EA888 engine which doesn't (AFAIK) have cylinder disabling (only the 1.5L EA211 has cylinder disabling)?

Surprisingly enough my engine has that code (being the EA888.3) If you don't have experience with that code on these engines it could be something more specific in the system (just a thought of course)

Probably not applicable in OPs case, but according to some online research, apparently EA888 G3B (2019 on) engines can have 'AVS' which is a dual-lobe cam on inlet or outlet valves, with some versions closing valves completely on light load - the reference was to Audi TFSI, but I wonder if it's in wider VAG use.

Definitely a possibility, the engine I have is the earlier EA888.3 (as a few components were upgraded after 2017 i believe) but that could be a very possible outcome, its good to keep it in mind thankyou
