Yep me too for more backup that it's totally normal.

The left grille on the climatronic panel is indeed where the cabin temp thermistor is and gets covered in crud, you can see it if you shine a torch in there. Give it a blast with a can of compressed air once in a while.

The climatronic on my old Octy used to slow the fan down under braking, no idea why though. It seems to be a common quirk judging by this thread.
